Best MiniAmp

I payed $35 for this one toned purple see through Dean Markley 1000GT battery operated mini amp. I think I'm gonna take it back and order a Marshall MS-2 Mini amp, as used by Jack Black in the movie school of rock. This little practice amp just squeals like a pig with overdrive mode. I heard that 1 watt Marshall mini has crunch lol. What would you guys recommend as a good portable battery operated mini amp??

Re: Best MiniAmp

I own the Marshall MS-2, the Smokie Amp and the Fender Mini-Twin. The Mini-Twin is the best hands down. You get 2 one watt speakers and you can dial in overdrive or clean it up. I use it all the time when my buds want to jam down at our bar in the dart room.

I also use and record with the Mini-Twin ... it's got a wicked tone to it that's gnarly (corny I know but it captures the tone well)

I think mine is 5-6 years old and still going strong

Re: Best MiniAmp

They all suck. I have tried them all including the new Roland (too big for your bag).

My vote is for the Fender Twin, but it is almost too big for the gig bag. Put it in your case?!?!? Forget it.

The Roland microcube is the smallest thing I've found that doesn't have flat, lifeless tone or break up beyond recognition.

+1 for the Mini Twin.

i've got the previous version without the tilt contraption. it sings both clean + overdriven.

i also own the Marshall MS2/4, sounds great clean but the OD isn't as impressive as the Twin's... :laugh2:

I have both a MS-2 and a Roland MicroCube. And I agree with the above. I even use the Roland as my practice amp (my classic 30 is too loud for the house :grumble: ) although the effects on it do sound 'solidstate' sterile when turned up past 50%.

I take the MS-2 (and my guitar :duh: ) when taking my kids to riding/music/sports lessons/practice and practice guitar in the car without attracting to much attention.

Re: Best MiniAmp

roland microcube is awesome. a lot bigger than the others though. i have the 1w vox, and its not bad. the distortion isnt so great, but i doubt anybody buys miniamps for their main tone
