Oh, some of my favs would be a Blues Driver, or a OD-3, or a Mega Distortion. Boss DS-1 never disappoints, but the DS-2 was pretty handy with the mid boost option. If you're moving up in the boutique world, Maxon Real Tube Overdrive, or OD/Distortion, and the goofily named Reezafratzitz are killer.

+1 for the KOT and OCD, and I would add the Crunch Box to the few distortion boxes suggested. For distortion the CB is tremendous bang for the $.

These overdrive threads are always so ridiculous, since there are so many different pedals out there for people to love.

I havent got much experience with a wide range of OD's, but i like my Bluesdriver :D

if i could only have one id go with timmy.

i have a kot and have made my peace, it doesnt work the way i want it to but it does its trick well. i still love my barber ltd run at 18v too, but if i can only have one its timmy. something about my amps, guitars, and fingers likes it best.

you need to try a bunch and see what works best with your rig

It's kinda like asking "What's your favorite Led Zeppelin song?" Millions of people like Led Zeppelin, but not everyone likes the same song the best.

TS-9
SD-1
Bad Monkey

If one of those doesn't do it for ya, it's really just a matter of personal taste. And cash...spend as much as you want. You'll get different, but not necessarily better.

And is this for dirt into clean, or dirt plus dirty amp?

Too subjective. Give the standard kids on the block a run and let the ears do the deciding.

FWIW, I thought the Greer Ghetto Stomp wasnt that great. I also wouldnt call it a low to medium type overdrive. It gets too fuzz like when cranked with buckers.

I have a Peavey Classic 30 that I play through the clean channel.


Does the Fulltone OCD have more gain than a Tubescreamer?


I think I may go with BD-2 and mod it.

I have a Laney VC30 that is not dissimilar to the Peavey Classic 30. I've been using the clean channel with 2 overdrives. In front of the amp I use a Boss OD3 with the gain turned completely off, the volume maxed and the tone set as close to the amps own tone as possible. This gives the amp a lovely kick and produces some hairy, growling tones. In front of the OD3 I have a Blackstar Drive pedal, a British valve based pedal. This I set for as much gain as I want from plexi type tones to screaming rage. With a set up like this you can turn your clean channel into a 3 channel amp in it's own right and still have a 4th option of using the amps own overdrive channel.

If you only want one overdrive pedal both of these are very good but I'd say I prefer the Blackstar but this is down to my personal taste. I'd still be happy to play a gig just using the OD3 through a Peavey Classic.
