If Crusty says a Strat is only a Strat with three single coils, then so be it.

With that said, I recently tried the almightly Suhr Riot and, with low gain settings, it fattens up vintage-voiced single coils wonderfully.
I really, really liked it.

The Joyo US Dream does that in a very similar fashion, but I'd say it's a tiny bit harsher. You'd barely notice side by side, I think.

I love the Riot–didn't include it in my list because it claims to be Distortion not Overdrive, but it is an awesome pedal for Strats.

I had the US Dream first and debated between the two, agree on it feeling harsher. Both are awesome though!

Yup.

Single coils into a slightly crunchy tube amp with a Riot/Us Dream set with low gain and high volume in front.
IMO, if you don't get a sweet barking sound by that point, it's your own goddamn fault.

I go for a Pickup Booster and an 805 Overdrive. The booster cascades into the 805 and both hit the amp harder. The booster would also help the cheap ceramic pickups in the cheaper Strats.

my favorite traditional strat setup is timmy into my deluxe reverb. timmy feels and sounds like part of the amp with the right rig and settings

Clapton (70's) is Strat into cranked tweed Fender.

Checkout pedals like the Wampler Tweed 57, Way Huge Red Llama, Catalinbread Formula 5F6, etc.

A lot of great overdrive options out there, but I'll second this recommendation. The 805 overdrive sounds great with my 57 reissue and 2012 US standard strat (all single coils). Combining with a vapor trail delay is sublime.

Then again the best Strat overdrive tone I ever got was plugging straight into my cranked JTM 45 clone using the bridge pickup on my 57 reissue. It was really very loud. The other guitarist who was playing a Flying V into a 70s plexi stopped playing and stated 'That is the sound of ROCK'

Right now, my main OD is a Joyo Sweet Baby and it sounds killer with my strat and my tele.

I've had my Badger Effects 1011 (that purple box I posted) for a few years now and it's a keeper. It's an exact clone of the AIWA 1011's preamp (seen in the Ritchie B&W photo); including the NOS transistor in it.

i don't really use overdrive pedals

i have a ts9
blues driver
but for overdrive, i can use the satchurator or Marshall bluesbreakrs as a boost

i wanted to know is the blues driver/ts9 is always the best with a strat ?
the others have more gain
