Best P90 in a standard humbucker format?

Re: Best P90 in a standard humbucker format?

I am calling "best" the one that sounds most like a classic P90. Others' "best" might be decided based on a different criterion.
Yeah, I winced a little bit at the title myself. I've got an old, abused double cut melody maker with an absolutely massive (and totally fugly) pickguard that has a humbucker sized hole. I really don't want to turn it into a major project to make the guitar pretty again, I just want to try something different.

Yeah, P-Rail is a great way to go for terrific P-90 tone plus a variety of other great tones (Rail, series humbucker, parallel humbucker).

The Mean 90 is a very good value conscious way to go. Great P-90 tones in a humbucker sized case, very meaty, and way inexpensive.

Well, in that case, I say go with a P-Rail. It'll give you plenty of ways to do different things with just one pickup. Get the neck model for more vintage tones, and the bridge model for a thicker, more modern sound. I always favor the neck model myself, even for the bridge position. I like more "vintage" tones.
