Best Pedal Tuner

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

I use a TC Electronics PolyTune. You can tune each string idividually or strum all six and tune them all at once. And it's true bypass.

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

Go Go Pedal Tuner. It has the feature I value most.....large screen and it changes color when you're in tune.

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

I need to invest in a solid tuner pedal myself as my old one just gave out. True bypass and accuracy are really my only concerns.

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

I've been using my "pitch black" for years without a hiccup... I'll replace it with the same thing if they still make it.

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

I am a big fan of the Korg Pitchblack. It has a HUGE display which makes it a great stage tuner for old blind b&stards like me. It also has a 9V DC out so it won't cost you a power plug. Very durable, very ergonomic. Also it mutes the output when you pop it so the audience doesn't hear you tune and also it works as a nice kill/mute switch.

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

I retired my Peterson due to its inferior jacks and am now using the TC Electronic Polytune. I use it in strobe mode.

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

Korg Pitchblack user here... no complaints. Way easier to read than my TU2 and true bypass as well.

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

I used a Boss TU-2 for years, but then switched to a TU-3. The 2 was fine on a dark stage, but the display isn't bright enough for sunlight. The 3 has a brighter display and is more accurate, but seems to require a bit more time because of that fineness. And an even brighter display would help, too.

For setting intonation, I use one of then first edition Strobe Stomps.

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

The Polytune is, imo, pretty much perfect, but since I don't always plug into a pedal board, I find myself actually using a couple of cheap Snark clip-on tuners more often. They're not QUITE as accurate, and certainly not as fancy, but they're...y'know...there.

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

Quick question about the Polytune, is there a quick, intuitive way to switch between tunings? I would love to use one, but since I play in 3 different tunings, I'm not sure it would really save me any time.

To answer the OP, I have used a TU-2 for years. If it ever gives out, I'd like to replace it with the Pitchblack or Polytune though. Take that for what you will.

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

Great recommendations are already in this thread.... the Polytune by TC, the Pitchblack by Korg, and the Boss TU-3. I have found the Peterson tuners too..... ACCURATE...for my use on a pedal board. They are great for fine, very fine tuning for intonation and bedroom tuning. Another pedal board tuner that I still own and like is the Hardwire HT-2, its the older version, one string at a time. The newer version will do what the Polytune does, all strings at once. The HT-2 Hardwire is a little larger than the Polytune, Boss, and Korg, however it is solid and I just like the tuning display. Its very accurate and I can use it for intonation, however its fast to grab the note and tune with. If I was really going to have a bench tuner, it would be the Peterson.

The one I do not see mentioned so far is the Sonic Research ST-200. I have never used one but the demos seem to suggest it is the fastest, extremely accurate, and could be used on a pedal board and bench.

Let us know which one makes the final cut. OH, the mention of the little SNARK clip on is a must have in your gig bag. Great, I mean great, little clip on tuners with fantastic accuracy. I think I have one in every acoustic guitar case and in my go to solid bodies!

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

I have a Korg Pitch Black Poly Portable, huge display and accurate tuning for mono, poly or precise strobe for setting intonation.

And a snark headstock, since it's always there...

I used to use mine with three different tunings and never had a problem.

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

I've had a polytune for a couple years and the only knock is that the display could be brighter.

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

I have a Fender that was priced right and never gave me a problem. I also have a Korg I like I got on a MF SDOTD
