Best pickup for the neck position with a Pearly Gates in the Bridge.

Hi,
And good morning to all (well it's morning here at any rate).

Just picked one of these up (not this one) with a Pearly Gates in the Bridge and the standard Epi P/U in the neck.
65 SG LTD.jpg

No coil splitting required.
What would be the better choice for the neck pickup?

I do have an old, probably 1980's, Custom Custom with a CCJ sticker on it (possibly too hot, coils are 7.13k and 6.68k).

Should have mentioned I'm looking for Paul Kossoff not Marty Friedman.

Thanks in advance
Spit

Pearly Gates neck? Worlds better than the stock Alnico Classic. 59n is great in an SG too.
For something a bit raunchier, many feel Whole Lottas work very well in SGs too.

Welcome to the forum

Seth or Jazz would be my recommendations

Or, put that Pearly you have in the neck, and use the CC in the bridge!
Otherwise, I'd suggest a Pearly neck, Saturday Night Special neck.

So little or no difference in Neck and Bridge specs on the PG.
Thanks for that, I've never even heard of a Saturday Night Special....
I'll check 'em out.

Cheers

Pearly Gates neck and bridge actually sound rather different from each other. PG neck is pretty warm, a good choice for an SG where the neck pickup is positioned slightly differently than on a Les Paul.

Mincer's suggestion was that your strong PG bridge pickup, when used in neck position, could balance well with an overwound pickup like the CC at the bridge.
