Re: Best Pickup

Err...this poll of yours kind of leaves a lot to be desired? Doesn't it? At least put an "Other" option for the love of the SH-5! ;)

Re: Best Pickup

i think he means best pup out of those mentioned (maybe hes cosidering buying one of them), not best pup in the world ever.

Very well be the case...if it is I apologize for promoting the Custom, which would actually fit your style very well, as it looks like you're asking about, for the most part, rock/metal suitable pickups. Very tight, aggressive, booming sound. I'll give the 85 a vote then, because it does shred.

Re: Best Pickup

Well, of the models listed, I prefer the JB. The EMG 85 is a good one too, but not as good as the JB.

Re: Best Pickup

All around pup- JB hands down... For more focused app's, you need more options than just those listed. Screamin' Demon...SH-5 Custom...

What You Prefer

I've only used the JB and I Know 0 about the other pickups...You might want to add pickups like the 59,Seth,Antiquity,SD,PG,and some popular strat pickups into the equation, unless your polls are purposely for you to decide amongst the pickups you are polling?

Re: Best Pickup

Thats a unfair question, there all like my children. I cant choose on over the other.

Re: Best Pickup

mate theyre all crap except maybe the JB, which I havent tried but theyre all geared for metal, what about the Custom? Never liked the look or tone of EMGs (i dont even reckon they have tone). The full shred sounds cool though.

Re: Best Pickup

Custom SH-5 is a personal fave of mine! Open-airy distortion tones with plenty of harmonics. Not a super high output pup- still retains much of the played note's tone. I use it for everything from metal to Southern Fried Hellbilly rock! Similar to the Screamin' Demon, but with a bit more edge on the treble end to it. Nice tight lows! Paired it up with a '59 neck and my axe is ready for anything!

Compared to the EMG 81's, these pups are far more musical. The 81's had a thin/trebly sound, and were very compressed sounding- not very dynamic. Yes- a lot of metal guys swear by the 81, but to my ears, the passive route is the way to go! I can always dial in more gain from the amplifier end. SD all the way, baby!

Re: Best Pickup

personally i think actives area waste of time, they dont let the natural guitar timbres come through, too much output, and anoying battery changes especially if you need a screwdriver to get into the compartment. I like to just plug in and go

Re: Best Pickup

where's the Custom and Distortion ? It's a toss up between those two for me.

Re: Best Pickup

The JB nails it for me. at times I wish it had more mids though. Maybe I can get Jessica to have MJ make a black bitchbucker for me LOL

Re: Best Pickup

Full Shred.

But what I find really funny is how no-one has voted for the EMG H4 :D
