Wow, everyone's saying 57's are muddy. I had the opposite problem. To me, they were too treble-y and lacked mids and overall character. They were sort of plain-jane.

Depends on the wood. They're just a lackluster wind.

I almost want to try '57s and like them just because it is blasphemy on guitar forums. It can't be as bad as people make it out to be.

But I won't try it because I'm happy with my setup as-is.

Hey, spend the money and find out for yourself. For the retail price, around $150, there are so many better PAF's. They're in the boutique price range, which is ridiculous for such a mediocre sounding PU. Why throw away money on a '57 or two, when you have so much better to choose from for that money?

I don't think they are bad, just not for me. They are 'not good' for me.

They aren't as bad as a few, very vocal, people make them out to be. I think the "plain jane" comment made earlier is apt. That works for some situations, not so much for others.
