Re: Best Seymour Duncan Bridge pickup for a six string metal sound
I thought I posted earlier not sure where that went, but here's a basic version.
As a the owner of a JB in a Les Paul I will say that I have found it very capable for the stuff I play, metal included. I don't usually fool with stuff tuned down past C# which really is just a half step down in drop D for me I guess. Having been in cover bands I've had to play a ton of different things and my JB Les Paul has been a mainstay for years. I like it's sound, it's signature searing tone. It nails everything I need it to. Many people complain that it has no bottom end, but I would argue that it does if tended properly. I seem to find it shines tuned half a step down. Playing anything from Guns N Roses to Van Halen era music is made a bit more beefy to me. It cuts through like a knife on stage, in the rehearsal room, and in the studio for me. It can be flabby when tuned low. And when tuned too high it fizzles out on chords. But to me the JB sounds the best when it's in its natural habitat.
It likes hard rock, but it loves metal. It's like a metal pickup that has this classic sound to it. Driving. It can be very biting at times but that's what I like about it. When EQ'd with my Marshall and Orange it excels at hi-octane rock.
Sure I could get EMGs, Distortions, and even sludgy, but needing versatility at my disposal I have found that while other pickups might to metal more metally, the JB takes just about anything you feed it. It's like if a PAF punched another PAF in the mouth, and then was struck by lightning because karma, died and came back to life as a PAF with a second row of shark teeth.
