Best Shred Guitar **MODEL**

Based on PFDarkside's poll, the general consensus seems to be that Jackson and Ibanez make the best shredding guitars.

Of all the Jackson and Ibanez models out there, which is the best for shredding?

(Remember: This is for Jackson and Ibanez models only.)

Re: Best Shred Guitar **MODEL**

The old MIJ Jackson Professional Fusions are awesome for shredding, and still pretty available (and cheap) on ebay, etc. Great thin, comfortable necks, and 24.75" scale.

Re: Best Shred Guitar **MODEL**

For me it's a toss-up between my Ibanez RG750VP or my Ibanez RG410BK.

THe Wizard neck on the 750 is the best one I've felt and I've played a lot of them. The oil-finished necks on the old Roadstars are pretty tough to beat tho with the 15" radius, almost jumbo frets and 42mm nut width it seems to strike a balance that makes it REALLY comfy and fast.

Re: Best Shred Guitar **MODEL**

When I started the poll, I intended it for all highly technical music, not just stereotypical Vai, Satch and Malmsteen. From that genre, to the always present soloist in metal, to highly technical fusion genres, etc.

To that end, the Jackson SL-1 always seems like a well built guitar that plays flawlessly for every genre. JB is a classic pickup that works across the board. And well, I guess SL-2H for me because I like H-H configs, so you get the '59 there too.

Ibanez S Prestige. Or a JEM?

I've never played a JEM before but I guess it's a RG that feels more refined and somewhere I heard the neck was thicker, and I usually prefer thicker. The S series overall just feel great. AANJ heel is always a plus.

I don't have much experience with Jackson honestly. I've played a couple of Dinkys and those pretty much always feel good.

But in all honesty, I don't like Ibanez's necks, because they're sooo thin. If they were just as flat and a little bit thicker I'd love them. It's great when you're in the store and wanna rip out some shreds or pickup your friend's Ibanez and use it to play something jaw dropping, but I don't think I could have one in the long run, because I don't shred 24/7, and even with my Strat's neck I can't stand chording too long with it because it's pretty thin. It's the "modern" flat Fender neck.

Re: Best Shred Guitar **MODEL**

For me it would be the old Bensalem PA custom shop Ibanez. The RG 750/760 (to me) just sound better and fell more solid. The bonus is you can find them in decent shape regularly on ebay.

Re: Best Shred Guitar **MODEL**

i play guitar in two bands, and in my thrash/black metalish band im the lead gutiar player. its funny that you mentioned that jackson and ibanez's are the best shred guitars, cause thats what my main guitar for that band is.

its a custom made iceman body, 25.5 scale, with an warmoth jackson style neck with the compound radius. its not my favorite guitar(2nd), thats my ibby ic400, but for that band, this gutiar is the most perfect sounding and playing instrument i could have.

so yeah, on which is better, jackson or ibanez, both!

Re: Best Shred Guitar **MODEL**

When I had my RG550DX I was floored by how many folks would approach me and tell me how they'd had an RG550 and ended up parting with it, and really regretted doing so.

Now that I have the Bensalem RG770 I kind of "get it." Nothing else sounds like it or plays like it. It is, in great part kind of a "point in time" axe, but it's also a great axe nevertheless....

Re: Best Shred Guitar **MODEL**

I really like the Ibanez S series especially the ZR trem on the new ones. Although I haven't had the opportunity to play a MIA Jackson, the only ones I've seen around here are the MIK ones which to me don't come close to the similarly priced Ibanez. Since we're talking about the BEST though I can't make a solid conclusion.

I definitely like the feel of the ZR trem though and overall the Ibanez S is one comfy guitar.

Re: Best Shred Guitar **MODEL**

Ibanez RG in some cheesy neon colour.

That said, I can't stand Ibanez RG's :D

Re: Best Shred Guitar **MODEL**

Despite that I prefer Kramers and old Charvels, I'd say that a Ibanez S520EX, RG550DX or JEM7VWH.

They all have slightly too thin necks for my taste, but they are all guitars that I could surely live with :)

Re: Best Shred Guitar **MODEL**

Jackson:

SL1 or SL2 depending on which you prefer for a neck pickup. The Soloist has been the the standard for shred guitars for a long time.

Though, the RR1, DK1, Kelly, and other US models will give just as good of a performance.

Re: Best Shred Guitar **MODEL**

Jackson Phil Collen model (The soloist body ,not Jazzr) is the #1 for Shredding.

+1 to that, with a Chlorine Burst and gold Floyd! I love the sustaniac in there, totally opens up so many more things for you to do. Blend mode on the Sustainiac is one of the THE coolest things I've ever heard in my life. The Ibanez JEM is pretty sweet because the upper frets (not exactly sure what fret it starts at) are scalloped out to help you get a better handle in the upper registers where the fret spacings are smaller. I really want to say it's only the last 4-6 frets that are scallopped, still cool none the less...oh and it's got a Floyd too. Those are the Jackson and Ibanez models I would take, but I can shred just fine on my Strat. :P

Ibanez S Prestige models rule!

I love the Ibanez JTK2 - a huge fan of them, and i want one real soon, but hardly a guitar that shreaders will go for !

The best looking, and most expensive Ibanez i have ever tested in my local shop is this one :

The S2170SE . . .

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/document?cpd=0OEY&doc_id=99371&base_pid=512500&index=0

If i ever got myself into a metal band (can't see that ever to happen, but lets keep an open minde here) and i could not afford my fav metal guitar brand, *BLACKMACHINE, i would go for the S2170SE, or a high end Parker !

* BLACKMACHINE - the utter last word in shread guitars
...http://www.blackmachine.net/

Even though i am not a shredder by a long shot, i still have gas for their axes !

Would love to have an SG, Tele, and a one-off custom creation !!!
Just look in their gallery !

Between all Jackson and all Ibanez models?

I think it'd have to be the Jackson Soloist. Now I've onyl got to play a Japanese SL3 which was quite inviting but I'd be willing to bet an SL1 would feel that many times better.

In all honesty though and for whatever reasons I find Carvins (DC1xx and similar) to be more to my liking (that's what I voted BTW), dunno if it's the 25" scale which allows for faster runs while still not as flabby as 24,75 or what else but they just feel more "right" in my hands...
