In a single the SSL-1 or SSL-2. In a bucker its more about the sound you are looking for. The 59 is ridiculously clean, as is the jazz but with less bass. I really like the sound of the Alnico 2 Pro though.
In my preference, vintage Jaguar pickups. Or most things that attempt to replicate them... though it's probably more due to the wiring, and them being in Jaguars than anything. Surfy, twangy, a bit hollow, ring like a bell, perfect.
For live use, EMG SA's with the SPC turned up just a touch.
For recording or at home use, the neck SM-1 in my Alleykat is very cool. It's almost acoustic sounding in a hollowbody, though it could use more output, as it tends to get lost in a live mix.
