Question: What are your favorite pickups for a clean sound? Could be any type, single or humbucker, p90, you name it. What's the word?

Re: Best sounding clean pickups EVER!!??

singles - surfers

buckers- tricky. PGs? maybe a jazz set?

Re: Best sounding clean pickups EVER!!??

The Jazzes are probably the cleanest as far as what I've played. I like the way the PG's and Alnico II Pros sound clean alot as well.

Of the Duncan pickups I've tried my favorite so far is the 59. The Jazz is pretty good too, but I think the 59 is a little smoother.

Re: Best sounding clean pickups EVER!!??

In a single the SSL-1 or SSL-2. In a bucker its more about the sound you are looking for. The 59 is ridiculously clean, as is the jazz but with less bass. I really like the sound of the Alnico 2 Pro though.

Single coils for sure.

In my preference, vintage Jaguar pickups. Or most things that attempt to replicate them... though it's probably more due to the wiring, and them being in Jaguars than anything. Surfy, twangy, a bit hollow, ring like a bell, perfect.

For live use, EMG SA's with the SPC turned up just a touch.

For recording or at home use, the neck SM-1 in my Alleykat is very cool. It's almost acoustic sounding in a hollowbody, though it could use more output, as it tends to get lost in a live mix.
