what is the best sounding humbucker in tapped mode?
So far the JB and Demon sound terrible tapped. I've had good results with a Gibson 500T but suspect there must be warmer sounding one.

I´m assuming that by tapped you mean split, i.e. one coil shorted out to be a "true" single coil.

Interestingly enough, the general consensus seems to be that the JB sounds best, that´s my opinion as well. Comes very close to a "real" single coil split, and it´s what I would have recommended. But if that´s not your taste....

What kind of tone are you looking for from the split selection? Darker or brighter than the JB? More output or less? From the 500T bit I´m thinking along the lines of a Distortion or possibly an Invader... ;)

Yep...the JB. Sounds killer wired series, parallel or split.

As far as neck buckers go: 59N and Jazz both sound excellant wired series, parallel or split...as long as you use them in the neck position. The bridge models are a little weak sounding split, IMO.

The JB split is over 8K and sounds great!

I have a set of Virtual PAF that sound great split. I haven't tried slitting and Duncans yet.

Re: best sounding humbucker in tapped mode?

to clarify, I'm looking for a great clean tone from the front PU of a Les Paul..warm, bright full..the JB tapped just sounded sterile to me...right now I have a Carvin AP-11 under a humbucker cover that sounds great clean but I don't get humbucking lead tone...of course I want it all =)

I have a Pearly Gates neck, and it sounds freaking amazing taps...

I nail the clean tone in 'Z.Z's Song' by Joe Satriani... check it out.

My CustomCustom in the Bridge doesn't really sound that great tapped though to be honest.
