Best Sounding Solid State Amps.

The best solid state amp I ever played through was a Peavey 2X10 Studio Chorus. I used an 88 Fender Stratocaster. I had people come out of the audience to tell me "that guitar through that amp sound real good".
Also the VOX valvetronix AD120, modeling amp. Of all the amps I have, I took this one with me when I evacuated for Hurricane Katrina, and that's saying a lot.

Re: Best Sounding Solid State Amps.

Define "best" whats best for you probably isnt best for me. I do admit to having a soft spot for the Ampeg VH140C but unless your after death metal type tones it probably wont hit your list of "best"

Re: Best Sounding Solid State Amps.

I like the Yamaha G50. I also like Music Mans, which are half solid state and half tube.

Re: Best Sounding Solid State Amps.

Yamaha G100, G50, all of its combinations. I have tried a 410 G50 and I own a 212 G100. They are really great amps. They are just really lively Fender styled amps.

Vox Pathfinder, probably the best breakup of any solid state amp I have played.

Re: Best Sounding Solid State Amps.

My Sunn Beta Lead is the best I have experienced. It's why I bought it back nearly a decade later.

Re: Best Sounding Solid State Amps.

Marshall Valvestate amps to me
Very rugged amp, lasted me for years before I sold and upgrade it

Re: Best Sounding Solid State Amps.

The Yamaha G100 family is great for clean solid state. I also used to play through an Acoustic bass head that was seriously sweet. Looked kinda like this one:

Good ol Music Man...those are some great sounding amps. They also take pedals very well. I used to rock an HD-150 halfstack. BIG sound.

Re: Best Sounding Solid State Amps.

I have a Fender Ultimate Chorus that I have never brought myself to sell. It sounds juicy clean, and like SATAN DEMANDING PAYMENT on the drive side

Re: Best Sounding Solid State Amps.

My old Crate GX212+ sounds kinda okay for practice if I am using my EMG equipped guitar through it.

If I want solid state, grungy, abrasive distortion, I would usually just shove my old DOD Corrision distrtion box in front of my Triaxis...

Re: Best Sounding Solid State Amps.

In my book, modelers aren't solid state, they are digital. Solid state amps to me are 100% analog with no tubes like the old Crates, Peavey's, Randalls and the Roland Jazz Chorus for example. The Vox Valvetronix and Roland Cubes, while not tube amps, are not solid state either by definition. The Marshall Valvestate amps even fall in the hybrid category.

I've got to say the best solid state amp for me is the Peavey Bandit Transtube. I used to have an old Bandit 75 in my early playing days. Sounded good but the newer ones sound 100 times better.

Re: Best Sounding Solid State Amps.

I had a Randall RG75 combo that sounded DAMN good for dirt-even just a little, AC/DC style.

Re: Best Sounding Solid State Amps.

I'm more then happy with the pair of Lab Series L2 heads that I have!

I figured someone would say this! ;o) Either way,it's got two preamp tubes used as output tubes in the valve reactor circuit...I Know it's digital, but it's also not a tube amp..Either way,it's the best in my opinion of this type of amp...It's been a solid amp in it's state..So it's solid state! ;o)

I gotta give you props for this line. Nicely played, sir. :friday:

And for the record, I use my Vox AD50VT (BBQ Grill series) a lot more than my Marshall JCM 900 these days. It's been a workhorse for over 6 years now.

Thanks Erik....I think the term Solid State is based on my sentence..When things went from tube to transistors,it was called solid state..I totally agree that my setup is in fact digital modeling, but I've been happy with this blue series setup since buying it new in 02...Says alot about the product that I've had it this long...And 0 issues!

The Vox VT stuff is awesome! I'm told the Blue series was the best of all the series..? No doubt there!
