I should mention that I'm playing in C Standard with an Orange Rockerverb 100 and a Mesa Stiletto Trident on a baritone equipped with Blackouts.

Yes absolutely. I didn't mean for it to sound like I said K100's are just higher wattage 75's. They are very similar, but the K100's have more upper mids and a less offending highend. Great speakers. I think K100's or CL80's are both great for clarity at high gain levels.

Mesa MC-90.

It's decended from the same genetic stock as the Classic Lead 80, but they're not identical. The MC-90 is a little darker and smoother, with a touch more low midrange.

That said, (since we're only talking C... thought you were talking lower for some reason) also worth checking out is the G12H.

That's pretty cheap, but I don't know anything about them. I know they are part of Celestions value line, like the 70/80, which is just an OK speaker. Sounds like nobody has tried the Hot100, I kinda figured them in the $70-80 price range, which is about what a Delta-Pro can be had for. I have experience with the EV, big tight bass response, perfect duplication of what is ran into it from the amp, and the DP are almost the exact same speaker. The G12K does sound very, very good in that demo, and I really like G12H30's tuned down, but I kinda like a gritty, loose sound, so, eh, I dunno.

All this speaker talk is making me mad that I haven't gotten money for the SwampThing/Wizard cab that I'm buying yet, sucks being broke.

Sorry for the stupid question,but can't you just mix it all?
Maybe mix K-100s with V-30s in an X pattern.. :D
IIRC K-100s used in Rivera KR-7 cabs,and the tone Mick Thomson produced from his amps is uber-tight,even with original Blackouts he used during recording session for Slipknot's latest album.
I wondered how tight his sound now with EMTY? :lol:

If you decide on GK-100's, be sure to take into account that they are only available in 8 ohms.

Mixing 75s and V30s in X are very common and pleasing approach but I have never heard of mixing 100s and V30. It might sound too harsh IMO. Also speaker impedance should be carefully taken into consideration when speakers are mixed.

Yes, unfortunately this is right but fortunately Eminence equivalent of K100s is 'The Tonker' and they come in both 8 and 16ohm options. They are worth looking into.

Well, then doesn't that mean if I we can't HEAR the mids, it's scooped?

It doesn't really matter if the specs say it has them if we can't hear them, right?

Umm, the first important thing would be dividing the range into too. The second important thing would be having one 2x12 as the LOW-END cabinet, and the top 2X12 for the mids and highs.
A Bass-Reflexx 2x12 with Delta Pros will deliver it.
For the top, get a set of Governors, or V30s whatever you would like to have.

You will appreciate the clarity of the low end of the Bass-Reflex cabinet. The V30s or similar (Wizards, Governors) will take care of the mojo and the nice lo-fi guitar madness!

Uh and don't mess around with 15" speakers, if you can't have a specially designed enclosure for it. The "response" is slower due to the bigger membrane size, so if the enclosure do not have a perfect fit and steady construction, it would cause loose bass frequencies.

Thant would be a cool comparison if you tweak the amp for each speaker seperately. Because every speaker has a different frequency response. A 100K would sound much better with presence dimed down. or a 75 better with mode mids.:friday::friday:

This is an old thread, but the reason the 75's sound scooped is because they sound out of phase with themselves - seriously the most annoying speaker I've ever played, I think.


As far as Eminence Governor vs the real V30... want until you put a mic on them both, and then decide.


I think you'd like the G12K-100's, though - great low end response and tightness but with a really cool and decently unique midrange voicing. Works really well with Soldano-styled amps (Recto, 5150, etc...)
