I just bought an esp/LTD EC-50 to do some experiments on and for 200 bucks its not bad for a beginer/ kick around. I was just thinking this could help for picking out a guitar for a present.

both my epiphone dot studio and my gibson sg faded. the dot actually had a bad output jack and my warranty refunded my entire purchase so i used it towards the gibson, making the gibson about $300. both are workhorses that i have experimented with and feel/sound decent.

So far for me it's between an Ibanez AS-73 for $300 and a G&L ASAT Tribute that I talked down to $450...the G&L's ahead.

My $300 Agile put my Les Paul Studio in it's case for well over two years. Which reminds me I really need to finish the makeover on my Gibby.

Squier Strat. $100. Upgraded with a new trem and the mandatory strap locks. It kills. Notes jump out of it, terrific sustain... so gritty! Great playability, even with slightly worn frets. Waiting for some Sperzels and Duncans.
My Ibanez is officially my #2 now, and it cost me 5 times the price of the Squier.

A squire bullet (?) strat. It was black with a matte one-ply black pickguard, hardtail bridge and a single bridge bucker with an invader in it. The neck was crap, played like crap, the hardware was crap, but I'll be ****ed if it didn't sound huge and amazing. I bought it for $120 and let my buddies little brother borrow it so he could learn to play... and then he lent it to a friend who 'lost' it. I was pissed. A USACG neck and some real hardware would have made that thing a keeper, and that should speak volumes about the guitar seeing as how I normally hate both black guitars and fenders.

my schecter was $450 and i love it
the strat i'm pickin up in a couple weeks is $450 too and it's the best strat i've ever played

First off, my Bastardcaster MIM Tele that I picked up for $350 in 1999. Let's not forget the SG Standard (not sure of the year, but I think it's around a '75, that I bought for $150: and that's another story), my 1969 Rickenbacker 4001 bass that I got for $425m, the 1976 block inlay Fender Jazz Bass for $450, the 1979 Dean Z for $200, the 1985 Gibson V for $300, my "wife" (1979 Gibson SG Standard) for $400, my recording 12-string Ovation for $300, the Pastorcaster MIM Tele for $300, the stupid Strat for $300, my 6 string Ovation for $325.....I use them all....

Squier '51. If you count the Cool Rails I picked up off a bro, and even if you count the GFS pickup I just kind of had lying around (which is killer btw) it still wouldn't be $250. I also got an LP-100 that I ended up buying all chrome trim, new pickups, etc for, for about $450.
