Best Tube Combo For $1900

Re: Best Tube Combo For $1900

TWEED CLONE (not just made for clean BTW, Tweeds scream as ferociously as Marshalls IMO).

I like the Mesa Boogie amps too, the Lone Star Classic is one of my favorite amps. I haven't tried the new Express series yet but I hear that they are BETTER than their predecessors: the F series. I think if I had to buy another amp though, it would be a smaller, cleaner type Fender like a Blackface Deluxe Reverb.

Re: Best Tube Combo For $1900

I'de buy an early SF Deluxe reverb, get the Trem Channel Blackfaced, and have the normal channel tone stack modded to be more Marshall-ish. Replace the speaker with whatever ya want. Buy a few pedals to use with it, and an attenuator.

Re: Best Tube Combo For $1900

I'd try a Mk IV myself, for fun. Otherwise a SF Super reverb and improve/renovate it.

Re: Best Tube Combo For $1900

Dang man you ask more "what amp" questions than Socrates in the Five Dialogues. So umm.. yea Mk IV

Re: Best Tube Combo For $1900

lots of people here rave about the celtic amps built by one of our own admins....i think its Simon

if this is to replace your 100W....remember, if you wanna do home recording, by a low watt amp so you can crank it for the best tone. 10W is still easily enough for home recording and more

Another hour, another BB post...

first up, go secondhand, your money will stretch much further, and someone else will have taken the resale value hit for you.

I'm guessing here, but that kind of money should get you a used Bogner Shiva el34. Possibly not quite enough gain for you, but a Shiva and an od pedal for solo boosts will make you forget you ever owned a JVM.

Also check around and see if there are any used 5150 3 heads coming onto the market.

Better yet, stop posting hourly on here and get your arse to a decent shop to try some amps out. More than one amp, maybe everything they have, at the volumes you are going to use them at. Nothing beats actually using amps to find out if they suit.

if you can't do that, I suggest looking on youtube (particularly if it's a boutique amp, your local store may not have one). There are lots of great clips of amps over on The Gear Page, so go there and have a listen. Also poke around the The Gear Page's emporium. There's always someone offloading some amazing amp for a reasonable price on there.

Just don't try posting constant basic amp questions over there. They're less tolerant than the nice folk on here...

Home recording/authentic tube tone .... hard to beat Tiny Terror .... but something tells me our designated Attilla the Hun will not like the idea ....

Re: Best Tube Combo For $1900

For $1900 I don't think I'd have too much problem pickin' up a Mark IV combo used in good shape with some left over...

Re: Best Tube Combo For $1900

I'm gonna sit this one out and watch BB go through amps like underwear for a year.
It should serve as a great lesson of what not to do, over and over. LOL

For the last few years, it was a different BB....BBent. The clean amp hustle.
This year, it's another BB. The highgain hustle.

hahahaha
