my new speakers finaly came in. i was wondering what would be the best way to hook the wires up. the old wires were soldered to the jack and speakers. is this way better than using connectors?

Soldering is always a good idea, it's much more permanent than using connectors. In fact, now that I'm thinking about it, I don't think I've ever seen anyone use connectors for speaker hookups.

I like connectors :D

Gotta crimp them down a bit with some needle nose pliers to assure they don't wiggle loose.

Re: best way to attach wires in a speaker cab.

I only use conectors when I know I might have to mess with phasing to match other cabs, etc. because they're easy. But even then I go back and remove them and solder it. I don't think you're at any risk of demagnetizing or overheating speaker terminals, but I always use an iron and dilligent soldering techniques. If you're a messy solderer brandishing a huge gun, maybe you'd want to use clips. :13:

I solder the wires inside my speaker cabs.

I just dealt with this conundrum last night. The weenie in me wanted to solder them on, but the clips are solid and need no solder to do their job. They won't be coming loose unless I pull them off myself. They are on tight, so I'm not going to solder them. If they had any slop whatsoever, I'd solder them in place for sure.

I use clip connectors and have never had any complaints about my tone ;)

funny you should ask that

last night i noticed my tone was a bit off, so i went through & individually listened to each speaker, and one of the wizards in the 2x12 wasn't makin any noise

so i cracked it open & both the connectors had come off

...the only cab i still have the connectors on, and they come off... both of them

from now on i'm soldering, no exceptions

Connectors are fine, just be shure they fit tight.
But if you want to remove any risk of connectors getting loose because of moving the cab, vibrations, etc. soldering is the answer.

I'm a restless person so I always solder to be absolutely shure everythings good in there.

If I'm experimenting I use the connectors. Once I'm sure the speakers are going to stay I solder them.
