Quite often, the equipment manufacturers set a range of dealership levels so that smaller traders are not obliged to carry the full product range. Think of this as a pyramid. In order to be permitted to stock the two thousand Dollar items, a retailer would be contractually obliged to carry, say, six of the one thousand Dollar models and twenty of the four hundred Dollar models. Needless to say, the larger dealership would be expected to have the space to display this quantity of stock. It is a question of scale.
EDIT - My made-up example figures come to 16,000USD @ MSRP. For the retailer, the investment would be between eleven and twelve thousand Dollars to carry that one brand.
