Big Box Store (local) Amp Selection

Re: Big Box Store (local) Amp Selection

Quite often, the equipment manufacturers set a range of dealership levels so that smaller traders are not obliged to carry the full product range. Think of this as a pyramid. In order to be permitted to stock the two thousand Dollar items, a retailer would be contractually obliged to carry, say, six of the one thousand Dollar models and twenty of the four hundred Dollar models. Needless to say, the larger dealership would be expected to have the space to display this quantity of stock. It is a question of scale.

EDIT - My made-up example figures come to 16,000USD @ MSRP. For the retailer, the investment would be between eleven and twelve thousand Dollars to carry that one brand.

I have been to six GCs here in the Metroplex and rarely see anything noteworthy unless it's some overpriced vintage guitar. I have purchased two low end acoustics, a cheap bass guitar, one keyboard, string sets, gift cards, and one pedal. That is almost nothing compared to my online purchases from Musician's Friend, ProGuitarShop.com, and Sweetwater in addition to the many products purchased directly from manufacturers like Strymon, Skreddy, FoxRox and others.

There is a small store near my office I visit when I want to drool over high end guitars and especially amps like 65Amps, Matchless, Tone King, etc.

I did buy a mid-level Breedlove acoustic there which would have been slightly less expensive at GC. I just want to support the local guy. The proprieter does not advertise. He doesn't want GC's clientele banging up his expensive stuff.
