Biggest suprise guitars??

Re: Biggest suprise guitars??

There's a Squier vintage vibe tele at GC for $279. Are you guys sayin that's a good guitar?

It looks amazing.

The vintage modified series are remarkable players that are way beyond thier price tags in many opinions. Ive heard the same for the Vintage vibes. But do play it first to make sure that particular one isnt a stinker. haha

Re: Biggest suprise guitars??

My cheap guitars are surprisingly good.

My expensive guitars are surprisingly bad.

Re: Biggest suprise guitars??

Pretty much anything from the Squier Vintage Modified or Classic Vibe series. Those are some great guitars, and a killer price too!

+1

I was blown away by how good sounding and playing the VM bass that I bought a few years back was. . .

Re: Biggest suprise guitars??

G&L ASATs are incredible instruments. My brother got one for $1,000 new. It was on sale at a guitar repair shop.

Biggest surprise guitars are anything with the name Godin on them. At least in Canada, they compete with instruments that cost twice as much.

My £100 Epi SG '65 model. Bought it to just throw some pick ups in and use as a beater.... it's a gigging machine now!

+1. Epi G-400's are well-made and there's about 30 different models now. Love 'em. Can't beat it for the money.

Re: Biggest suprise guitars??

How much room have you got?

POSITIVE SURPRISES
Ibanez S Classic
LTD EC401w + SD Live Wire Classic IIs
PRS SE One + Kent Armstrong Hot P90
Signature (Buildabass) Custom J Bass + Bartolini PJ pickups
Squier Telecaster Custom II
Yamaha Attitude Plus bass + SD Active EQ "switch" P pickup

NEGATIVE SURPRISES
Musicman S.U.B. 1 guitar. Toneless plank! (Sorry, Sterling, but the one I tried was lifeless.)

Re: Biggest suprise guitars??

Ain't that the truth!

Eh, there's too much reverse snobbery on this forum. Just ship those unwanted, overpriced guitars to me, and I'll dispose of them in an environmentally responsible manner.

Re: Biggest suprise guitars??

My Epiphone Rivoli VC (Vintage Cherry) I got it a few years back on Ebay and it really has great tone and the neck feels great and it's just beautiful! I got a great deal on it, but beyond that it really plays better than I expected.

Re: Biggest suprise guitars??

I will say that despite owning an encore acoustic and a squier affinity strat, i will say i have tried many other guitars (admittedly some right handed, but i prefer to play left handed as its more comfortable and slightly easier on my right arm and elbow) and i will say the Ginson SG's and Les pauls play like a cardboard tube if im honest *dives for shelter* and the expensive fenders sound crap depending on the model too. My point is, depite it being cheap and i will mod it soon, my affinity squier has been a dream to play. it all depends on the preferences and respectively playing techniques of the player themselves, therefore my squier seems an absolute beauty to me, i know others would deny that, lol.

Re: Biggest suprise guitars??

Epiphone LP Ultras are incredible for what they are. I mean they're not as good as high end gibsons, but they kick the crap out of a lot of the stuff in their price range.

Re: Biggest suprise guitars??

Hagstrom Select Super Swede (In my sig). It sounds like a darker Les Paul and has a switch for single coil or humbucker. You can hold a note for days with this thing.

Re: Biggest suprise guitars??

I let a Black OLP go that played as well as any Axis or EVH I've tried! Just never thougth I could be taken seriously w/the OLP on the headstock, instead I just got took.

Re: Biggest suprise guitars??

I've had more fun with my Yamaha Pacifica 120SJ Tele than I ever thought I could have. Of course I put in a pair of Seth Lovers to maximize the fun! LP-type tones for classic rock and blues, minus the LP weight and bulky hardcase, without the fear of cracking the headstock.

Had the same satisfaction and fun previously with an H-H Fernandes strat. Still kicking myself for selling that one.
