bigsby in tune?

I have an artcore AFS75tbl Ibanez, and it has a bigsby bridge... It never stays in tune. Locking tuners will resolve?

Re: bigsby in tune?

I have a Hamer Newport w/Bigsby) which stays in tune perfectly well. If you try to do Floyd-Rose 1980s dive bombs with it, it won't hold tune as well... but that's not what you buy one of these for anyway.

From what I am told, Hamer remanufactures every Bigsby they install in order to align the bearings and so on...

Re: bigsby in tune?

Maybe the cheap bigsby copy is the problem. I assume it's not an original.

Re: bigsby in tune?

I just recently got rid of an epi LP that had a stock bigsby horseshoe on it.
I got rid of it because it was a pain in the ass. That said, some people love them, more power to you!

Ideally, a bigsby should have a 'rocker' bridge. That is, the TOM has special thumbscrews that allow the bridge to actually rock back and forth as you use the vibrato. Otherwise, your strings are sliding through the saddles, and hence, they settle in a different place and you are out of tune.

Getting a super slick set of saddles (i assume graphite would do it) and a set of locking tuners should HELP the problem. But, as stated above, you're limited to light vibrato with the Bigsby, and any attempt at any big push or pull will throw it all out of whack.

Re: bigsby in tune?

I was once told a trick where you tune them like this, start on one of the E's (lets say the low E) and then the high E. A then B, D then G.

Don't know if it works but the source swears by them and I trust it.

Re: bigsby in tune?

I've owned a few guitars with Bigsby-like trems, and one real Bigsby.

They don't work for me. I will never own another one.
