Black LP - would you buy one?

Re: Black LP - would you buy one?

Looks like I'm the only one here who really dislikes black Les Pauls then.

Oh yeah...I hate gold hardware too. :p

Re: Black LP - would you buy one?

I'd go with a Gold Top or burst for a Standard but if it were a Custom, Black would be it.

I'd actually pick white for a Custom. I really dig gold hardware on a white body.

My second choice for a Standard would be Desert Burst. Gold top is a distant third.

Re: Black LP - would you buy one?

^I'd go either White or Black for a custom depending on the deal.......

...but I thought the OP was a trick question.....Seriously,which les paul model (besides the menace lol) doesn't look excellent in black?

In general black guitars have slightly worse resell value because they look better in person than on average guy's photos when selling. Hence more guitar center pickups and less ebay success.

+1. That's absolutely it. Black guitars are hard to photograph.

Would I buy a black Les Paul?

Is that Frampton?

Oh yeah, black L.P's, would I buy one? Yep... I did.

Re: Black LP - would you buy one?

Well I've been outbid on a black one... thing is what I really want is a trans red LP... but they're not so common

Re: Black LP - would you buy one?

Black guitars suck and they are too hard to photograph.

I received it that way from a Hamburg punk. Lots of paint damage, too, but no breaks. I made the switches inactive, at least the pickups turned out to be unharmed. Unpotted 1979 Dimarzio PAFs.

ETA: punk as in actual punk band member, not insult-punk.

There are some beautiful solid color Gibsons, and LP Stds & Customs are a couple of them, along with SG Customs. Everybody isn't trying to pawn off substandard material on the public. Sounds like you're letting paranoia take over.

You are right.

I'm sure they'd never paint a multi-piece body to hide a butcher block piece of wood.

I'm sure there isn't a 4 piece maple top under that coat of black laquer, or 5 blocks of mahogany under the white of an SG Custom. I'm sure they are using their best pieces of wood for these opaque colored guitars.

I agree with Blueman, you are definitely paranoid. I can't guarantee that they necessarily use beautiful pieces of wood on opaque guitars, although there is a history of them doing exactly that, but they don't use more pieces of wood.

Gibson finishes are thin enough that if you hold an opaque finished guitar near a bright light at just the right angle you can see the seams where the pieces are glued together. Check it out then make an informed decision.

Played black 70 LP Custom for over 10 years...sold it. Got a nice MIJ Epi black Custom from Watts...sold it...what's wrong with me? Got a gold top now, my other guitarist has a black LP Custom he may trade with me...my CS336 is black, I think a black Custom would be a nice partner...so yeah, i dig black LPs...just can't hold on to 'em...douh!
