Black Winter: Are they versatile enough for....

Re: Black Winter: Are they versatile enough for....

I have a '59 neck in a semihollow that gets great blues tones all day long.

Yeah I know id be safe with the 59. However Ive heard from several that the screaming demon works really good as a neck pup, just wondering if itll get blues tones?

The guitar in my review was a mahogany Dean split tail. The pickup sounded fantastic. No matter what I threw at it, it handled. No you will not get a "blues crunch". However, if you pop a Jazz or a PGn in the guitar you can get you "blues crunch" tones from the neck
pickup.

Ok thanks....a jazz would be out...Ive heard (whether true or not) a PG wouldn't sound good in a mahogany guitar...that leaves me the option of a 59 or a screamin demon in the neck slot

I have a Black Winter (b) and a Duncan '59 in a mahogany Ibanez. It is a 4 conductor '59 out of a Schecter Baritone. That combination gives me a sonic chubby every time I play. The Black Winter is like a Duncan Distortion with more mids but it is still just as tight. Sounds really nice split and in parallel as well. And paired with the '59, it's just "right" to my ears. The '59 will do blues very well obviously and if you raise it up a bit, you can shred as well. My $.02
