Black Winter

Re: Black Winter

Anyway- I stopped in here to say that I'm ordering a set of Black Winters very soon, hopefully tomorrow.

I can't wait to start playing some black metal on the new guitar with Black Winters! :headbang:

You sound way too excited. If you're playing black metal, you should be a lil more brooding...

Re: Black Winter

It appears that it might (finally) be a set that is set up to do WELL in a 24 fret guitar. That's very exciting to me! I wish they had a "heart of winter" or something in white for my PRS.

Re: Black Winter

The store I went into (the importer) checked from a few sources that no sets composed of a TB & SH were available. They could order me a single trembucker, but the total cost would climb all the way to BKP territory plus wait time (1,5 months on the safe side).

I just ordered another of my 'tyrannotitan' pickups from the custom shop, sent an email to MJ on 20th June and my pickup arrived in Australia on 8th July, so that's alot less than 6 weeks, more like two all up. I figure with pickups that already exist and don't need for any R & D, so it's take alot quicker. So to order a trembucker Black Winter shouldn't take much.

BTW Scott, the local distributor in Australia is sending both a standard and a 'trembucker' sized Black Winter to Dream music, so definately the trembucker size is available.

Re: Black Winter

sorry bro but I have to raise the bull**** flag. look at the custom, custom custom and custom 5. different resonant peaks while the coils are similar. This is of course logical since the resonant peak is also determined by the magnet and polepieces. Sorry.

I do think these coils are similar and I do think the JB, Distortion SH6 and Invader have coils that are VERY VERY close. I made a JB/Invader hybrid with hex polepieces (one side hex, same weight and length as a slug) and one side has a fillister screw. I think my 'hybrid' is very close to this pickup but I have to play and hear this set, though. Not that I will, because I'm saving up credits for a phat staple set and a set of charlie christians ;)

The custom V and the custom custom had ve a higher DC resisitance than the regular custom, thats why the resonant peak is lower. Thats like saying a Alnico Nailbomb is less bright than the Ceramic Nailbomb cause of the magnet. Incorrect, ceramic mags have a quicker transient attack than alnico, more effecient magnetic field. When I did the comparison video between the DD and the Tyrannotitan, I noticed the increased presence of the TT, but the DD still has more twang and dirty rough mids which is still a great feature. MJ says the winds are identical, but either the wire gauge is different, or the insulation type is different, so I don't know how she made the DD into the TT !!!

BTW, the coil wire in my second TT is different from the first TT, the 1st has a bright golden coloured wire and the second TT has the same reddish coloured wire just like a Black Winter. Could this be a later refinement made AFTER my first TT was made which may ended up becoming the Black Winter with the further addition of side bar mags????? The second TT is definately a little clearer than my first, even more snarly, though it could be that my natural V has half the low end of my black V, both all mahogany neck/body with ebony fretboard. Well I'm soo happy anyways that I might not get a black winter anymore...... But curiosity will get me....

Re: Black Winter

Whoever designed the SD font and art for the box should get a raise! Very Winter "Into Darkness"

Huh? That picture is taken in Oslo last week. Around noon everyone storms hunting ice bear for the office lunch.

Malarky! pure bull puckey. They all have the same resistance any variation is due to production tolerance the only difference between those 3 pickups is the mag and that alone is what changes the inductance and lowers the resonant peak.

The color sometimes changes from batch to batch of wire. It could be the same gauge and insulation type just one has a red dye and the other does dont take a change in wire color to mean anything.

Almost everything else is pure speculation, I get it its fun to dream but your really over thinking it.

Re: Black Winter

Did I SAY white winter?

Black coils, regardless of logo, are boring to me. We've looked at them more than anything else since the 60s.

Edgecrusher is right , i wouldnt be surprised if your tyrannotitan is nothing more than a DD6 with double screw poles . (hence the DD6 sticker on the back)

Re: Black Winter

Are you trying to convince everyone that the Black Winter is based on the custom shop pickup you had made or something?

Almost what it sounds like to me! Haha! If he thinks they might be similar.....cool. Implying that his custom shop pickup "Is SO good they made it into the Black Winter" well.....that is kind of arrogant.

From reading all the threads: The Black Winter is a slightly modified DD with triple ceramic mags. The Tyrannotitan is a modified DD with different wire, one ceramic and double screws. Fair amount of difference there.
