middle lug is the wiper.. so one connection there.. the other would be on whatever end the hot was on.. usually this lead comes from the switch or pickup
you wold be checking ohmage to see if they do indeed work

I'm getting 0 when the volumes on 10 or I'm getting the value of the pickups with the volume at 0 (17.3bridge 12.7 neck) what's that supposed to mean lol

So I just tested it again the way you said (with the leads plugged in right smh) and I'm getting 0 with the volume all the way up or 17.4 with the volume down. When the volume is half way up its reading 130? I'm so confused, and this is all with the multimeter on 200k anyone know what's up?

You can't measure 500K resistance when the meter is set to max out at 200k.

I know how to work a multimeter lol and it's not giving me any reading higher than 130 when it's wired up, and that's with the vol at 50%, when it's at 100 or 0 I get no reading. Just for ****s and giggles I took apart my brand new rg, and it's pots behave the same way so now I know it's not the pot that's bad... it's gotta be my ****ty wiring than, I was using this solder that came with a mini torch/solder kit and I thought it would work fine and it did on my other ibanez with emgs but for some reason it's not good enough for passives? This is making my head hurt lol

No, you apparently do not know how to use a meter because you have your meter set wrong. You need your meter set higher than 200k to read a 500k pot. That's why you can read it up to about 130k at 50% and then you get 0 - because above that the resistance goes above 200k and your meter can't read it - because you've set it to 200k to read a 500k pot.

Well then how come even set to 2000k it reads the same thing? And on a brand new guitar if the pot is wired up there is no way possible to read the full 500k. If you know of a way I'd love to hear it. But it's not like the multimeter cuts out like it would if the resistance is too high, it just goes smoothly up to 130ish than right back down to zero once you reach 10 or 0 on the knob. Not trying to be rude, you can even see where I corrected myself after I posted it...

How would you get a pot to read 500k while it's still wired in the guitar? I don't think it's possible, and I know it's not possible using the method Branden told me about lol btw thanks for your input man sorry if I came off dickish

in order to test the impedance of a pot /pup/resister... gotta be disconnected from the guitar.. to get an accurate reading

With the guitar unplugged, open the cover to where the pots are and touch the multimeter leads directly to the pot lugs in the guitar.

Yeah man 130 is the highest resistance I come up with touching the leads to the center and left (hot) lug, and that's only when the volume is at 50% at zero it shows the resistance of the pickup selected. Turned up all the way everything shows zero resistance. I'm assuming your talking about a guitar with just 1 volume knob because none of mine will read 500k unless I unsolder them, except the tone. The tone reads 500 with it turned down but not the volume. Maybe it has to do with the volume being a B and the tone is a D? This is really confusing me lol if your telling me to do something it's obviously worked before just not in my case

Ok so I gave up on getting the s right so I took the BW set out and put them in my RG421 with a new switch, and it sounds a thousand times better than what it did in the S520ex with the ibanez stock wiring. I followed the HH1V1T 5 way diagram on here and it worked like a charm
thanks for all the suggestions guys. Btw does anyone else know of any other cool sounding switch combos? Just using a standard 8 lug switch?

gonna need too invest in either a super switch or some DPDT pots to get the most switching options..assuming the pups are 4 conductor

those super switches are so much easier to use that a regular 5 way IMO
i get my electronics from allparts..

No they are nice and bright and like you said almost too bright lol I think it had something to do with my crap soldering. But now that the stock pickups are back in the s they don't sound anywhere near as good as they did before I removed them. I'm gonna mess with it right now and see if I can get it back to the way it was when I bought it.
