Black Winters!!! Help!!!

Re: Black Winters!!! Help!!!

I guess they're just not as good as the duncans and that's why I'm thinking they aren't as good lol their isn't anything wrong with em it's just the sound isn't anywhere near the quality of the duncans, or even the inf3&4 set that came in the rg. I guess it just boils down to high output vs low/moderate output? Right?

Re: Black Winters!!! Help!!!

Depends. Maybe it's just that you want high output for your sound, or maybe you don't like the stock pickups' sound characteristics, or maybe there's a difference in quality. I like to think that Duncans or Dimarzios are usually better than very most stock pickups, but I can't say anything about your Ibanez pickups.

My point is, low output doesn't make a pickup worse, it just sounds different and may be better for another style of music (typically less overdriven, more vintage sound). You can't say high or low output is generally better or worse quality. If I'm not mistaken, the main reason for high-output custom pickups like the Dimarzio Super Distortion back in the days was just that rock/metal guitarists wanted more overdrive. Modern amps have more gain than anyone will ever need, but back in the 70s, you really had to push them.

I found my perfect pickup with the BW, but someone else may prefer a vintage-style pickup with half the output. It doesn't sound worse, just different.

Re: Black Winters!!! Help!!!

I never said anything would sound worse because of low output, but I've been playing these BW set for almost a month now and I've gotten spoiled lol when I got the S520ex I thought the pickups were awesome, they would squeal all over the fretboard but now it's hard to do pinch harmonics. And I play metal constantly so I felt these are like a match made in Hell \m/ lol

Re: Black Winters!!! Help!!!

Well, now we need another set for that original guitar!

Re: Black Winters!!! Help!!!

Lol I'm looking for something a lil easier on the budget, something that's readily available on the used market for somewhat of a discount, yeah I'm cheap like that lol

Re: Black Winters!!! Help!!!

What kind of guitar is it, and what kind of music do you want to play?

Re: Black Winters!!! Help!!!

It's an ibanez s520ex mahogany body and I play mostly high-gain metal style pretty much that whole I went with the black winters but they are expensive and didn't sound too great in that particular guitar :( but I want yalls personal favorites for similar styles metal, doom metal, sludge ect lol
