Blackheart 15w Handsome Devil

I just wanted to give a tip off on this for those who may not have seen this. I know I'm excited about it. I want a tube amp and I don't have any money, so I was considering one of those 5w jobbies. But, I know it'd have to be cranked to 11 to keep up in a band setting with absolutely no headroom to spare. Hopefully, this thing is for me. If not, I'll maybe look into a Peavey Windsor.

Available July, 30.

yeah they look pretty cool. still dunno how much headroom you'd have but y'know...it's probably not BAD by any means.

Re: Blackheart 15w Handsome Devil

5 watts isn't enough for a playing with a group of people though is it? I mean, maybe if you push it as hard as it will go, but then you're left with no loud headroom. I'm just asking.

In great part it depends on where you're playing and how you're playing.

A 15 watt amp has great appeal to me as someone playing Blues and Classic Rock as it allows for breakup fairly early on without being so loud that I have to be concerned with an attenuator.

Generally I get my cleans by turning down the volume on my guitars a bit or setting up the neck pickup on my Les Pauls to be backed off a bit and just switch to the middle or bridge for a boost. Add in a good overdrive pedal and there's more range to work with.

Very likely I would pair the 15watt head with a Marshall 2 x 12 for better dispersion and with the lower volume would find myself exactly where I want to be with it.

At $300 for a 7/15 watt head I'm certainly paying attention. Even on the quieter side of things I would rather be forced to mic up in larger rooms then play the annoying battle of trying to not blow everything out with a larger tube amp.

Re: Blackheart 15w Handsome Devil

I have their 5 watt and I love it. Nice old school british type tone. And it is loud. With it plugged into 2 12's I had no problem keeping up with a drummer. In fact 1 12 will work.

Re: Blackheart 15w Handsome Devil

yeah headroom will be a problem, but if you just need but kicking narliness 5 watts will do ya. my drummer and other guitarist dreaded my fully cranked valve jr with an eq in front for solos

Re: Blackheart 15w Handsome Devil

I'm definitively interrested. Even the little gem or whatever they call it looks like a good amp.

Re: Blackheart 15w Handsome Devil

if your looking for a affordable 15 watt tube amp check the orange tiny terror too, its switchable from 7 or 15 watt and it can be really loud for a little lunch box trough a 2x12 or 4x12. Controls are simple, tone is awesome and pretty versatile and seems to take stomp boxes well too. Its the next amp im getting, i was looking for a home amp that works great for recording but once i heard what it could do and how loud it could be i was amazed by the little box and might even use it for gigs.

Even without a mic it can keep up with a drummer? I was considering this before I bought my Pignose G40v, but 5 watts made me concerned along with others warning it won't keep up with a drummer, even though our drummer plays mostly brushes. I think the 15watt would be more versatile for more headroom.

Re: Blackheart 15w Handsome Devil

The Handsome Devil looks like yet another dual EL-84 amp, and direct competition for the Tiny Terror, so no big anticipation from me. Although it's priced at double the price of the Devil, the amp I'm looking forward to is the Egnater Rebel, which according to Bruce Egnater will be coming in late July or early August.

And the pricepoint on that one?

For three bills I'm not concerned about detonating the thing....at double that I tend to expect a whole lot more!

Re: Blackheart 15w Handsome Devil

Yeah I heard the clip of the Egnater at NAMM and it didn't sound that great. My new Pignose sounds better than that in spades even with the crappy stock 10" speaker. I paid $185 and the Egnater is going to be what over $500? I'll pass...

The Little Devil is what I'm more interested in

Re: Blackheart 15w Handsome Devil

Which od or distortion pedal would drive that amp to more metal zone ? i bassically will have that amp for blues and classic rock, but i play a lot of metal stuff too, so i wonder if one of thar digitech hardwires should do the job well: http://www.digitech.com/en-US/products/sc-2, or http://www.digitech.com/en-US/products/tl-2 ? and would the higher output pickups like distortion or custom or emg 81 drive that amp quicker into metal zones ? as metal i think about those early heavy metal stuff, like dokken, iron maiden, judas priest, saxon, motley crue, wasp, extreme.. as well as later thrash speed metal like slayer, megadeth, heathen, forbidden etc. i also think about early punk/rock stuff like the clash, ramones, sex pistols, dead kennedys and stuff like that. anyone, that had some good results with pedals and which is the best ? once again, i will not use that amp as a metal amp, but if i fall into metal situations would like to have a solution in good od/dist pedal ! and i already have bad monkey tube overdrive pedal as a boost on my Blackstar HT-5 amp. for HT-5 more than enough  but what for Handsome Devil ?
