Blackouts -difference with tone and volume pots

I just installed a set of these in my Charvel and I am blown away by them!
Great sounding pickups for different styles with zero hum!

My question is about the supplied pots, There are four supplied 2 x 15A25K 0930Q and 2 x 15A25K 9027Q

First of all their is no information on which pots are volume and which are tone as they are indentical. I went with the 27Q and they seem to work!
This is extremely annoying though that they don't mention this on the website or in the manual!

My other questions is that when you have the bare unshileded wire from the pickup should this be shielded?
Mine has a fair distance to the volume pot and good be problamatic!

The pots are also very samll and fiddly!

Conclusion....great amazing pick ups..........crap wiring and pots!

Totally agree. WHen I bought my AHB-3, I also purchased an EMG solderless kit, and with the EMG kit the tone pots already have the capacitor soldered on, so identifying which is which is easy. Only soldering required is for the 3-way. But that was an additional $30 out of my pocket...and that kit comes stock for an EMG 81X/85X...I don't see why SD can't do the same...

Yeh, I would rather pay a bit more and have less hassle!
The pots included are so small and difficult to work with. You also have to short conector 3 onto the pot yourself.

I'm going to have to get an electronics engineer friend of mine do re do this properly as my wiring is a mess thanks to the basic kit.

Never mind the pickups are awsome!!

i had the small emg pots with my AHB-2 but i didn't like the taper with them, i ended up using an old normal size pot from my original emg-81 but that thing is showing it's age..i have some aftermarket pots that i haven't put in yet as i have drill a larger hole for them...

Re: Blackouts -difference with tone and volume pots

I'm guessing that those are just manufacturing date or batch codes, that don't really have any relevance to how you use them. For example, one pot may have been made in the 30th week of 09, while the other was made in the 27th week of '90. Its probably just coincidence that you got 2 and 2.

Maybe. :scratchch
