Blocking a Kahler Tremelo ~ Help needed.

Kac

I would like to block the Kahler Spider Tremelo bridge on a guitar.

I want to block it so that the whammy bar will only go down (flatten the notes).

here's a pic so you get an idea of the bridge:

I have absolutly no experience with blocking trems, so I need some help.
If anybody with experience could contribute I would really appreciate it.

Thanks - Kac

I think this might have been designed for that purpose:

It might be able to be set up that way. I'm not sure.
I've heard that the Kahler system is a bit different than a Floyd Rose, so I'm not sure if that can work, I'm hoping someone here has some experience with Kahler trems.

I think I'm gonna have a luthier do it because this is my Dream guitar, that I might soon be getting from kjrocks and I do not in any way want to screw it up, the only reason I want to block it is so I can use a d-tuna or something of that sort so that I can use the guitar for both standard and drop-d tunings.

Hmm... that thing looks like a piece of crap. The metal piece that attaches to the trem block seriously looks thinner than a coat hanger. The Tremol-no is a much better design.
Its already been licensed by Allparts, so it will be out soon.

whatever floats your boat man. i was just showing you it's been done already.

I was also waiting for the Tremolno until I decided to go with a Kahler flatmount. That's good to hear it's been licensed out; it looks like a pretty neat product.

That thing does look like a POS.....and I bet that it can't open a beer like the tremol-no can! :laugh2:

Looking at the bottom of the guitar, there's a space between the trem block and the wood that the springs lay over. Find a small piece of hardwood that fits in that space so that the trems baseplate is still flush over the top of the body. Glue that piece of wood in there with a couple spots of wood glue. If you ever want to remove it, just tap it out with a flathead screwdriver. As long as you have a little block of hardwood that is shaped to fit in there perfectly, it'll only take you 10 minutes to glue it in.
