Blocking FR tremolo - do I remove the locking nut completely?

Blocking the low end FR trem on my guitar. I know I don't need to put the nut locks on anymore, but should I remove the whole locking apparatus? There is still a standard plastic nut below the locking nut.

EDIT - I decided to remove the entire locking nut because it was causing some ringing on the strings.

No. Removing the lock at the nut will reduce overall tuning stability. If you're getting ringing on the strings above the nut put a hair tie or something over them to mute 'em.

I think the ringing is the strings vibrating against the metal without the locking pads
the strings are just hovering over the assembly without the pads installed

I would not remove the nut lock, I'd still lock the string, even with the bridge blocked to prevent any loss of sustain due to strings moving freely over the unlocked nut
