Blog: What's a Buffer Amplifier And Why Do You Need One?

Re: Blog: What's a Buffer Amplifier And Why Do You Need One?

I installed a buffer into my main guitar, now I can run 30+ feet of cable before my pedal board without any noticeable loss. I would definitely recommend this. It's on a push-pull pot so I can bypass it for use with fuzz pedals.

There's a buffer in the MXR M-173 (Classic 108 fuzz). Does this serve the same purpose?

Got a link for that?

I used the Creation Audio Labs Redeemer, it's incredibly transparent and doesn't eat batteries (6 months and haven't replaced mine) I've been pretty happy with it. http://www.creationaudiolabs.com/redeemer/

Their website is a little over the top, they make the thing sound like it cures cancer, which it doesn't, it's just a really nice buffer. The one cool feature is that when the battery dies the guitar still works even if the buffer isn't bypassed, it has some sort of internal bypass system.

That's pretty sweet.

I thought it would be cool to build a buffer into a volume pot, or into the output jack. They're so small you could probably put one on there. I built a JFET buffer onto a board smaller than a postage stamp, and I'm sure it could be linked to a pot or a jack easily enough.
