A few months ago when I went to look at some overdrive pedals and ended up with a Fulltone OCD, my "tryout" amp at Ye Olde Guitarre Centre was a Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue. I liked this thing quite a bit; it's more my speed than the Blackface types that I've played.

Normally I don't come 'round here looking to be sold on something; if I want it I just buy it. However, I'm paying off a big purchase right now (nothing we care about here), so it will be months before I can spend this kind of money on anything else.

So what do you guys think of this one?

So Fender is re-issuing a PCB amp?

I didn't realize they were re-issuing these. Nice sounding amp. I know a guy who has the one to. He gets a very good sound out of his, but I think they lack enough headroom. It seems like he is always driving the amp too hard & has a real hard time keeping it clean.

That's because it's supposed to be a dirtier amp - hence the name "Blues" Deluxe. Enough headroom is a relative term depending on what you're playing. I just built a 5E3 Deluxe clone and it has... well it has no headroom - and that's just how I like it.

Re: Blues Deluxe Reissue -- thoughts?

Exactly. If I liked the squeaky-clean, high-headroom sound that much, I wouldn't have sold the DRRI.

When it comes to the Blues Deluxe, I'm not in it for the clean tones. :naughty:

Re: Blues Deluxe Reissue -- thoughts?

I like em. The drive channel seems a little sweeter and less agressive, and the normal channel is warmer than it's bro the HRDx.

If I had to, most days I'd take an HRDx because it seems more versatile and it does have more headroom, but somehow it felt like I needed to mess with the controls less on the blues deluxe to find a good sound.

Re: Blues Deluxe Reissue -- thoughts?

I love this amp. Way more than DDRI and Hot Rod Deluxe... This is a "tweed" amp, but its loud. So you might need an attenuator and all...

Great amp for the price...

BTW G12-65 is a great match for this guy, 97dB thing (as opposed to 100dB) is a good match, because this sucker is already quite powerful. To be honest, I'd prefer the 57 Twin reissue over this, yet that one is really expensive. 59 Bassman RI is kinda similar, but I prefer the 12 inch speakers in the blues deluxe reissue. Bassman is a bit sweeter though...

Anyways, I'd say, you won't regret it...

Now you see I have a real DR. A 67 or 68 SF. & I almost gave up on this amp BECAUSE it had hardly any headroom. I wound up putting a Vintage 30 in her & now it works. Its still pretty challenging to keep it clean. Maybe its just my style of playing. I hit the strings pretty hard.

Re: Blues Deluxe Reissue -- thoughts?

Fender knows there market pretty well, so it's likely a matter of demand.

Lots of players have said they preferred the old Blues Deluxe over the HRD.

The fact is, there's room for both in the marketplace. They both have the small size and adequate power for lots of gigs.

I checked this amp out as well. It is supposed to have a more tweed type tone than the crystal clean tone per say. I was thinking of adding an extension cab and haveing Fargen mod it. They have a mod on this amp that really tricks it out if thats what your into. To me, after I heard the mod, it sounded sweeter on the cleans and more aggresive in a good way on the breakup but thats for you to choose for yourself. He did have a demo of his mod on youtube. I just liked the power verses the size ratio and figured it could fit on a smaller stage. With an extension cab I could stack it or put one speaker back by the drummer in a practice kinda thing. I think you have the right idea, explore it and let us know what you think and find out
