I find them very very different.
I'm a huge fan of the blues deluxe, I just love that guy!
I prefer it hands down to the hotrod.
Differences the hotrod has more gain, that doesn't mean it was a lot of gain, just has a little more than the blues deluxe.
In the Blues honestly I don't even bother with the gain, even in the max it doesn't sound gainy. However my fascination with the blues deluxe comes from the clean channel.
The Blues Deluxe is warmer, and it gives you that nice tube sound in lower volumes than the hot rod, it's hard to describe..
But i'm pretty sure if you try them side by side you'll hear differences.

I tried the Hot Rod Deluxe with my Tele when i was first trying it out, i tried a bunch of settings and i almost put the guitar back on the shelf, but then i had the sense to try it in another amp, a Twin Reverb. It sounded phenomenal. I would go for the Blues Deluxe, just because i didnt like the Hot Rod Deluxe at all.

Hows the reverb in the blues deluxe?
Which would be better for trying to imitate SRV? I tried the Hotrod against a blues junior, and prefered the Hotrod. Now i find that there is a blues deluxe which is similar in price to the hotrod.
Im just trying to gauge peoples opinions before I make the trek to try out the blues deluxe. I almost bought the Hotrod, but if the consensus is the the blues deluxe is better than I will hold out to try that.

Awesome thread...I'm kinda thinking to change the Engl Screamer combo for a Fender combo..and these 2 are quite interesting.
I read that the 2 amps can sound shrill...adjusting the bias correctly, swapping tubes and/or the speaker should do the trick.
