Blues distortion

I want to Distortion pedalfor Blues. I have Bad Monkey and love it. It works well for me to give anoverdrive tone. I tried out the Scremin Blues but I am not sure as i felt it was bit too bright? But maybe I did not give it too much a chance too. But after my experience with The Bad Monkey, I am thinking abouth the scremin blues. what would u guys recommend. I play classic rock and blues sometimes hard rock. My main guitar has a JB. and my other guitar is a strat copy, if that matters. I was kind of leaning to the Blues Driver, after listing to sound clipsI want a warmer tone.

At one point I traded in my Boss Power driver pedal for a Boss Blues Driver and I loved it.... I then sold it because I needed money. In any case, for the period of time I owned it I got great tone out of it, especially when I ran it into my guitar teacher's marshall dsl 401 on the clean channel. Pure blues. Oh yeah, it can do some heavier stuff, too. Very versatile, especially if you were to get it modded. It gets my vote. Peace.

Rather than distortion, I prefer the Chandler Tube Driver.

Marshall Blues Breaker, old black box one. Wonderful tone for blues. The Boss Blues driver is OK, but can be better. Now, I will recommend it if it is modded, such as the Keeley mods.

Vox Valvetone. They're discontinued, so you'll need to find a used one, but they do sound great. It's basically a different twist on a Tubescreamer.

I have a Bad Monkey and there is no way I'd use a Blues Driver anymore. If you are interested in Boss then I'd try the OD-3! Blues Drivers are terrible sounding to me, much like Tubescreamers they sound good playing leads but when you play a chord it sounds like mush.

When you say Blues distortion..... You need to be more specific. SRV played blues and used a Tubescreamer thru a vibroverb to get the tone he wanted. Clapton played blues thru a Bluesbraker cranked up high. Muddy Waters played blues with a Tele thru a Fender amp cranked up. Much of this will depend on what type of tone you are looking for. IMO the best blues tone comes from a one horse pony type of Amp. Like a Deluxe Reverb.... no channel switching, just crank up the Amp and there it is. If you want a little more having a good quality OD pedal will get you there.

Here are some resonable Pedals to look at and try.

1. Ibanez TS9 or the 808. Both are excellent for a natural blues OD tone.

2. Boss Super Overdrive. I used this for a long time. It is a very under rated OD pedal. They are around $40.00 new.

3. Boss Blues Driver. Decent OD tone... but I prefer the SOD or the TS9.

4. Pro Co Rat.... If you can find an original. These tend to be a little trebley, but the are a really nice pedal... mor fuzzy sounding.

Keep in mind that these pedals as I suggested work best when using them with a Clean amp and kicking in the OD to push the Amp a little more. I use a TS9 thru a Super Reverb or a Deluxe Reverb. I alos have a Marshall Bluesbreaker pedal that I use with my Marshall. This does a really nice job. If I use it in the clean channel of my Marshall it gives me a reall nice OD tone. If I use it in the drive channel it sends my Amp into orbit! Works great with my 900.

I love my Bad monkey but I am looking at something a bit heavier and warm. The Bad monkey is cool, I dont have word r to describe it...I a m looking at something giving a tone diff from the Bad monkey.. Hey but thanks evry one

I have always had a TS9 or TS9DX somewhere in my chain. To me they just tickle my ear the way it wants!!

Spina modded Sparkledrive....basically a TS-808 with a more transparent tone, more balls and you can dial unaffected signal back into the mix so it sounds more like the amp being punished. :beerchug:

Keeley TS or Fulltone FD2 all the way! Very organic and sweet. No ugly coloration.

No...seriously...even with witty banter I can't let this one go....

Overdrive pedals are intended to do specifically that; take an amp that's on the verge of breaking up and push it that extra shove to get it to overdrive. You can use an overdrive pedal on an amp that's not breaking up to simulate some of that sound, but it's nowhere near what the real intention of the pedal is for, nor a true representation of its cvapabilities.

A pedal that simulates the sound of an amp that's overdriven no matter the volume is a distortion pedal.

Overdriving an amp doesn't kill amps....if it did there wouldn't be anywhere near as many amps in the world as they are today.....I'd of personally nuked a half dozen amps in years past that have since gone on to other persons and I can guarantee you the Blues Jr. I beat like a rented Buick would be nothing more than a smoldering mess on the floor.

If you are looking to go a distortion the first stage of a Silver Dragon. If a differen OD to classic Rock the OD-3.
