Blues Driver and/or DS-1 for my 5150?

The Blues Driver and DS-1 with uber high-gain (as of yet, only possible on my ME-50 and OD-20 Twin Pedal thanks to the extreme tweakability and turbo gain) =Biu's tone.

Soooo, I was wondering if my 5150 would sound good (with the gain around 2-4 max) combined with these pedals. Anybody try it?

You need a Hypomuhbypassverybloodyexpensivefutiquetoeventurnitup pedal;)

And how much does on of these pedals cost, with post and packing of course? :) :) :)

Re: Blues Driver and/or DS-1 for my 5150?

well, the pedal is only $30, but it's 235 pounds, so shipping is gonna be quite a bit

anyhoo, do you mean as a boost or stand alone?

ds-1 would be better for boost, but overall i like the blues driver more, never played a 5150

then again i haven't had either stock in months, heh

I don't have a 5150. Unfortunately, I don't like either of those pedals stock. I'd go with an Analogman BD-2/Super mod for about that price. Can really get you into DS-1 territory. Check out http://analogman.com/boss.htm#samples.

Or get the DS-1 and let John S (Stratdeluxer97) mod it for ya.

I really like the OD-20. Better than the OD and distortions in my GT-3.

Re: Blues Driver and/or DS-1 for my 5150?

I personally think the BD-2 is more useful in the boost category than the DS-1, also more natural sounding ... but personal opinion and all...

Re: Blues Driver and/or DS-1 for my 5150?

Basically, I want to use the pedal(s) as clean boosts, but at the same time get those sweet dynamics of the pedals. The 5150 has WAY more gain than anybody should ever need, so I'm not looking to get more distortion.

I really like the fat, rich character of the BD-2 and the spanky edge of the DS-1 and want to incorporate that into my amp's tone for some riffs and solos. The DS-1 is looking mighty tasty at only $39 new...plus I could have Stratdeluxer mod it.

Re: Blues Driver and/or DS-1 for my 5150?

I ALWAYS use a Nobels preamp booster, it is basically a clean boost with a good volume increase, when used with overdrive channells it adds a touch more gain as well as a volume boost, they are cheap to buy, well built and reliable.

I, along with Peavey do not recommend using at high gain distortion pedal with the 5150's. There are many booster pedals out there to choose from. If your looking for a clean boost, check out the Zen Drive.

I played one of these through a ampeg 60 watt combo about a week ago with a 88 MIJ strat and it sounded realy good, it took the sound I had hit and then you just push the volume a little bit more with the pedal. I was realy suprised how it sounded. It didn't muddy up change your tone, it just gives you that extra boost.
I dont know if that is what your looking for, but check it out anyway. I know after I get my amp back I plan I picking one up.

Re: Blues Driver and/or DS-1 for my 5150?

As a Clean boost used with the rhythm channel, Yes, An overdrive would do nicely. But not on the lead channel. You said it yourself. This amp has way more gain then anybody will ever need...

I keep my pregain on three...

Hmm, that DOD looks pretty cool. I think I may check out the RC and AC booster pedals as well.
