so this is some crappy playing, but it gives you a good idea of my current rig.

Fender Strat
-SD SSL-1s
-SD twangbanger (bridge)
'68 bandmaster reverb with a 15 inch Weber Cali.

the recording is horrible cuz the mic on my mac buzzes a little, and the playing isn't my best either. but you get the drift. What do you think?

It's good but two things I noticed about your technique immediately. Try not to hug the neck with the inside of your palm and thumb. Another thing is that picking dynamics are inconsistent because you use ur stroke to make the dynamics. Try only with a harder grip instead. U got skinny fingers but heavy hands. Skinny fingers is a great asset for guitarists. You will play better if you fix ur technique up a little. Gotta luv video!

thanks for the advice. It's much appreciated. I guess I've developed way too many bad habits from my love for SRV. Especially the hugging of the neck with my palm. But I will say that it makes for easier bends.

I'm not quite understanding the harder grip thing, though. Could you elaborated?

This means that you should not strike the strings harder or lighter to produce pick dynamics. To pick softly, hold the pick softly. To pick hard, grip the pick hard. DOn't attack the strings with more force or less force.

Hold an Em chord on the 9th fret. Strike the notes with a loose grip on the pick. Go up and down the chord. The next time grip the pick hard. There are ur dynamics! Now you don't have to worry about your stroke. Your pick hand can remain consistent!

thanks andrew. yeah it has been a long time.... somebody's big day is coming up soon :fing2:

things are going well here. I was soooooo busy with school this past semester, you could almost say consumed. we need to get together again sometime, it's summer.
