Bogner Amps

Re: Bogner Amps

GJ is right...for most players a Shiva is PLENTY of amp!

If you just have to have the XTC then go for it but most XTC players I see barely use the amp to it's full potential.

Re: Bogner Amps

I've played Gearjonser's XTC and we found an Uberschall at a shop when he took me around LA to look at guitar shops. Awesome amps. I can't describe what I felt when I played them. One day I'd like a Fish Preamp...

Re: Bogner Amps

Do you think the XTC is better then the Shiva. I know people say the XTC its more versatile then the Shiva but which one sounded better in your opinion? I know the Shiva is half the price of the XTC but the XTC has more features I think.

Well here's the thing. The Shiva is just different. The XTC is obviously more versatile, but they have different things going on. They both have this soft compression thing going on. The XTC has a more compressed, jangly and thinner clean channel. The Shiva clean channel is brilliant in every way. They both get a really nice grit on the clean channel so when you crank them, there is much to enjoy. The blue channel of the XTC is the most versatile of the channels. With the boost on, I want to say that it has slightly more gain than the Shiva with boost on, but I can't remember for sure. The red channel of the XTC is more similar to the Shiva 20th anniversary (with EL34's). The Shiva has a thick low midrange that is hard to dial out unless you use the shift feature. Once you engage the mid shift, it leaves more upper mids in tact and sounds a bit more Marshally. They're both unforgiving amps, but I think the XTC is slightly more unforgiving. The XTC 20th is definitely more unforgiving. The Shiva also has a better FX loop in my opinion. I don't know what it is but my effects just sound better through the Shiva.

Re: Bogner Amps

I broke down some time ago and got a used Shiva head.

Of the amps that I used and heard the Shiva has two advantages that really matter to me: (1) it still sounds pretty good at low volumes and (2) it has both a really driven distorted sound and a good clean sound. That's hard to find. Together with what is hopefully good price stability I think it's worth it.

Re: Bogner Amps

I think im starting to lean more towards the Shiva loaded with EL34s but either way it goes i dont have the funds and if the amp is unforgiving as you say maybe not even the skills lol but I can compensate for that but if the Shiva is as good as people say it is I think it will satisfy my needs until I actually have enough or just want to have the XTC in my collection.

Re: Bogner Amps

The Shiva is a more all-around amp. The XTC has a more specific character. Some people don't enjoy it as much because it's harder to dial in,more compressed, not as tight, and picker about pedals. The XTC is more flexible and has more gain, but the Shiva is more workable with pedals and different setups. Plus, the Shiva works very well at low volumes. The XTC is 120w and doesn't sound as good at lower volumes. That's my opinion. You can find a good Shiva used, but if you bargain, you can get a good deal on a new one. Use a credit card or something. They're worth every penny. Plus, they have a lifetime warranty but you will most likely never, ever need it.

Re: Bogner Amps

I own a 20th Anniversary EL34 Bogner Shiva and love.
However, I prefer my modified Dual Rectifier over the Bogner XTC.
I also prefer my Mesa Electra Dyne and PWE Event Horizon. But, the Shiva rocks.
