Bogner is releasing pedals!

Re: Bogner is releasing pedals!

The thought of an XTC Blue channel in stompbox format makes me tight in the pants. I'm naturally a bit skeptical (how good can pedals "really" sound), but if anyone can do it right, it's Reinhold. I'll be following the progress of these things closely.

Re: Bogner is releasing pedals!

Anybody else think it's kind of pretentious and cheesy to name them after the amps? Obviously a solid state pedal is not going to sound like a tube preamp...

well people would be confused and complaining just as much if they had named each one something entirely different and nobody could tell which pedal was supposed to sound like which amp. if you're the guy who says, damn, i just saw/heard this guy play through a bogner ecstasy and i want that amp! oh, it's going to cost my life? maybe i'll just get a pedal for a couple hundred. but which one do i get to sound like that?

lol, not saying it's the most intelligent thought process, but marketing is NOT directed at smart people. the world is full of idiots. marketers know that.

true.. Im really curious how much like the amps they will sound... If I could get an XTC in a pedal and a Soldano SLO, Id be done... haha

LOL you have a cheerfully easy way of stomaching marketing schemes. :approve:

Re: Bogner is releasing pedals!

Unless its a Bogner Preamp, it'll be just another high gain can of swarming angry bees.
You can only get so much gain out of a pedal before it fizzes out..and that threshold appears to be Plexi hot rod..

No kidding. My Ecstasy didn't really work out for me, even if it is an incredible amp but that blue channel is something else. I'll definitely put these on the "test drive" list.

Re: Bogner is releasing pedals!

A couple guys there confirmed the street price - $250. That's honestly less money than I thought they'd charge. Still money though.

I can't wait to try one. I'm pretty sure they're based on the Fish and XTC preamp sections, only without tubes. If there's anyone who knows how to design a preamp, it's Reinhold Bogner.

Actual review of Bogner pedals from Frankfurt Messe:

woude said:
I played all three Bogner pedals yesterday at the Messe for about 15 minutes.

I played it way too short to give a good in-depth review, but f.w.i.w; my first impressions are really good. I played the Uberschall and Ecsatcy amps a couple of years ago, so I'm not the best reference for saying if it absolutely nails those amps, but, through a Bogner Goldfinger clean channel, they didn't sound like a pedal at all, but very amp-like. I played / heard 100+ pedals yesterday and these three where easily some o the best, for me.

The Uberschall pedal sounds huge, not buzzy or fizzy at all, not too over the top gain-wise, just thunderous. I instantly tuned to drop D for some Alter Bridge style riffing, which it handled perfectly. To my ears, this came very close to the sound of the Uberschall, except that you don't have a 412 cab and the power of a 120w amp, which makes a big difference of course. If you have a small amp, it sort of turns your amp into a mini-uberschall, if you have a big amp with a 412 cab, it might get pretty close to the real thing.

The Ecstacy Blue & Red could be dialed in for both very fluid / liquid leadsounds that sustained like crazy even at very low volume or very tight heavy rhythm sounds. On top of that they both had a very broad range of sounds with all these switches that sculpt the sound in very usable ways. You could easily dial in great blues sounds, great on the verge of breakup sound (plexi mode), great rock sounds, great fluid & sustaining leadsounds etc, etc. I switched back and forth a lot between those two Ecstacy pedal and at a certain moment I had the impression that they both covered more or less the same ground, maybe the red was a bit heavier? I think I was in serious need a bit more time in a less distractive & noisy environment with some fresher ears... ;-) Anyhow, I had a big smile on my face while playing them, they are a lot of fun to play with and for me one of the best new products on the Messe.

I must add that the on/off lights and boost lights were a bit dim under all those bright lights.

Price in EU was going in the direction of 230 Euros I heard.

Re: Bogner is releasing pedals!

Hated the demo BTW, let's blame it on the mics and the outta tune guitar

I hear 'ya. Definitely didn't sound anything remotely special. Hopefully in a better recording environment with a guitar player that actually tunes his guitar we'll get a better idea of what this thing does. I liked hearing how it cleaned up, but that's about the extent of the positive initial impressions from that clip. Right now I'm awfully glad I decided on buying a Kingsley Jester.

I just picked up both the Red and the Blue pedals and I love them! I use the Red pedal into the clean channel on my 20th Anniversary Bogner Shiva and I have more versatility now. Amazing tone and feel. Running through the clean of my Shiva, it sounds and feels like a good amp, a good 101b or 20th XTC. I am super happy with these pedals.
Definitely some of the best OD/Ditortion pedals I have ever used. Wish I had a way to make nice clips. They are every bit s good as my Xotic pedals and Sonic Edge pedals.

I find the Ecstacy Blue channel extremely close to the gain on my 20th Shiva so I use the Blue pedal with my modifed Dual Rec or PWE. Both are great.

Some great demos....
