Bold as Love

kk I want an amp that will sound like the part in bold as love where hendrix goes

ANGER then you get that huge CHU CHU of huge marshall balls gain,

I want the CHU CHU tone, I'm thinking a JCM 800 cranked

don't tell me to get a pedal, pedal gain is for... not me

well if you're going to crank it, you might as well get an amp that was around when he played. Maybe a JTM 45?

i think that chu chu can come from any high powered tube amp cranked up for a super thick sound.

i dont think you want too much gain to get that sound. just a strat and an old school tube amp turned up maybe halfway. i can get that sound from my deluxe reverb, which is a decidedly un-high gain amp

i agree, i was gonna add to make sure you use a strat with low gain pickups, and any old school tube amp will work. The lower powered strat will give it clarity, and the amp will give the thickness.

+1. JCM800s weren't even around in Hendrix's day.

i bet Hendrix could get that sound out of a Twin.. in fact i've seen photos of him using one.. But a 4x12 with greenbacks and a Plexi reissue would be killer...

In the studio i'm sure they could of used anything.... i've heard tracks done on Champs that sound like wall to wall Marshall's...

true.

also, my book says hes used Sound City amps alot on the Axis sessions, so theres a chance it could be one of those too.

Get a Plexi......... Thats what Jimi used. Maybe a Fuzzface a Univibe and a Vox Wah! Then you have to practive your but off to make it sound like that!

It just sounds to me like he had the amp set near the top of the clean range, and just laid into the guitar.

I don't know that you need any particular gear to make that sound.

I can get that from a Strat into my Super Reverb with the tone knobs all on 7 and the volume somewhere between 6 and 8. I put a Boss CS-2 in there for extra thickness. You could even add a clean boost to bring the natural crunch up a tad, but it's overall a more clean than dirty tone.
