Re: bolt on vs. neck thru

So is the can of worms that "Bolt on vs Neck Thru" threads usually open up :laugh2:

Re: bolt on vs. neck thru

I have a question along these lines...

I have a Fender Celtic Custom Esquire (at least, I think that's the name)...

It has a wierd neck called set-through...I think. There is no seem, no bolt, no glue line, no nothing (double negative...for play...).

What's the story with this design. Is it pretty much the same as neck-through and no one wants to acknowledge this? Or is it some new funky hybrid?

What are the effects on tone I should expect as I go pickup shopping. I have an old custom JB. I like having some clean passages during verse parts/ I don't play many chords, except as arpeggios, and I tend to kick the preamp distortion in on solos using a Mesa F30. I figure this should sound great...

Aloha

Re: bolt on vs. neck thru

A set-thru neck is a neck set very deep into the guitar's body. It's basically a set neck, only that the neck tenon is very very long, but not long enough to be a neck-thru, and neck is still actually set into the body, unlike a neck-thru which is actually going completely through the body with two body wings.
