I'm very interested in tube amps, how they work and how they are constructed. Can anyone here recommend some books in which you can read about tube amps?? :beerchug:

Don't remember the name of the text, but Dan Torres has a book that's a good read about tube amps.

Start with free stuff like the P1 theory document on the P1 project page at ax84.com and the tech info pages at aikenamps.com, in particular the common cathode stage, LTPI, and NFB articles. Your public library may have some stuff as well, I found a copy of Rozenblitt's book on basic tube amp design (for hi-fi...he has all these statements about how you want linearity. :laugh2: ). For pay, Kevin O'Connor's The Ultimate Tone series, in particular 1 (for design) and 3 (for construction), are good books. My most-used tube amp resources are Aiken's common cathode article and O'Connor's TUT1.

Look at all the schematics you can find. Study Marshall's layout in the non-master amps and in the single channel master volume amps. Know it well because it's a good layout for high gain amps.

Tubes work by controlling current. The current run through a resistance generates voltage. But the device itself is a current control. Don't forget that! :)

Go to the Mesa site and download the Class A Exposed and Explained. It won't be near as thorough as the books others have mentioned, but it may be a nice little starting point.

Damn, thanks for all your help.. I hoped there was some books about tube amps in my own language but I was never able to find any books, so these in english are good enough.

Re: Books about tube amps??

that Mesa one is great, and puts things in a straightforward way. Then of course there's that US Navy pdf, which is a whole course, and is far too much info...

WOW.....talk about in depth!!!

I might just download the whole course.....just for gee whiz info.
