BOREDOM PROJECT For my SSS pickguard~~

Hi all & hope yer all well & staying in tune!! I'm ready to take another plunge, this time looking at something much more vintage, w/perhaps a little twist... It's either the Antq II Surfers,,, the Antq Texas Hots,,, if there's anything noteworthy from Fender,,, or anything exceptionally vintage sounding in the Noiseless category. I have plenty of 'boutiquee power' on hand, so I want the best quack in the 2&4 positions, bluesy in the neck, clear & distinctly Fender in the bridge, & a middle that again, makes a great 2/4 sound. If another brand jumps out at and is not muy expensivo!! Thanks all & be smart, stay safe!!!

Have you considered looking at some of Lace Sensors offerings?

Re: BOREDOM PROJECT For my SSS pickguard~~

a set of surfers is a great strat setup! the classic stack + are nice pups but if you dont need noiseless, id stick with the ants

Re: BOREDOM PROJECT For my SSS pickguard~~

No Christopher, but what can you tell me about them? I realize sound is hard to describe, as is buying blind...
Thanks

Jeremy, noiseless would certainly be nice for once in my life,,,Do the Classic Stacks 'really' do 'vintage' right? My amps & tastes do send me into high gain settings, not necessarily loud, but 60hz noise,,,,?

Re: BOREDOM PROJECT For my SSS pickguard~~

the classic stack + is as close to a noiseless strat pup with the classic strat tone that ive found, some like kinman which i think are pretty good. i dont like any of the fender offerings that ive tried. fralin makes some cool noiseless pups that i really like but they arent quite as vintagy strat sounding as the duncans. do surfers sound better? to me? yes. but there is a reason i have both sets of pups

You have to look up each particular model, but each color does different things. The Blue and Light Blue for example are two different P90 sounds but the Red is a hot humbucker. They have their own sound to them though, a bit of a hifi type vibe.

A set of Hot Golds sounds like something you may like, they are actually more "vintage" than the standard Golds.

Re: BOREDOM PROJECT For my SSS pickguard~~

I am a huge Classic Stack + fan, so I'd recommend those. They are my favorite Strat pickups period, noiseless or not.

Re: BOREDOM PROJECT For my SSS pickguard~~

For noiseless: STK-S4 neck, STK-S4 middle, STK-S7 bridge.

Re: BOREDOM PROJECT For my SSS pickguard~~

i had that set and i loved it. guitar got stolen though :(

Re: BOREDOM PROJECT For my SSS pickguard~~

more warmth, sure. more quack? i tried the stks4b in the neck and didnt love it, a little too warm for me. i was happier with the stks4n

+1 on the Surfers.
They are pure, classic Strat. Chime, pluck, wood, and glass, in just the right proportions. Perfect quack in the middle positions.
They haven't been redesigned to make them noiseless. And they aren't built for extra breakup and midrange.
Not "pretty close to" iconic Strat tone. They're the real thing.

The STK-S4 are noiseless versions of the SSL-1s, and they are pretty spot on

Indeed...but you have to decide if you want noiseless or not. It is always noiseless for me, but everyone is different.

Re: BOREDOM PROJECT For my SSS pickguard~~

I'd swap the neck for an S7, gives the neck a bit more warmth and more quack in the neck/middle position.
I had the STK-S7 in the neck and didn't like it, too warm and bass heavy. Remember that the STK-S7 was designed as a bridge pickup. Might fit well with in the neck with a dark humbucker in the bridge so you can set your amp accordingly.
However I think the STK-S7 is a very good match to the STK-S4, a good balanced set IMHO.
