Bos GT-100 Issues.

Whats up everyone?
Since the Boss GT website has been down, there isn't anywhere to go and talk about the GT units. That place was awesome as so many users where able to help each other with some issues that may arise. I'm hoping some of you are experienced GT users and can help me with my interesting issue.

So the GT-100 I have owned for awhile now and I swapped it for the GT-10. On the GT-10 I was able to use some of the Amp modelers built in with custom patches I built and they sounded pretty damn good in the 4 cable method.
What's going on with the GT-100 is I can't seem to get any of the built in Modelers to sound good. I mean all of them. It's like I have this overwhelming amount of bass and mid range on every single amp modeler even with no effects compressors nothing running but the preamp. Now mind you my amps preamp I have dialed in pretty good. My clean channel sounds amazing especially when I use the OD pedals out in front I get some crazy good sounding over drives. I mean the Boss GT-100 failed this as I feel it's far superior to the GT-10 here. But when I build a new patch with lets say the Soldano preamp which I loved in the GT-10 , it doesn't sound anything like the GT-10 or a Soldano for that matter.
Same goes for the Marshall amps as I was able to really get some great fun patches built on the GT-10 but no luck at all even dialing in just the preamp dry.
The Mesa Boogies sound terrible which surprises me as the GT-10 sounded very usable. Even the Fender Clean doesn't sound right.

Now I have the 4 cable method , combo return setup +4 output , send and return are at factory default 100 , global EQ is set to 0 on all setting which is supposed to be neutral or bypassed if you will according to Boss, and I get terrible tone out of every single amp model. Hell I even tried the new Bogner and man does that not sound like a bogner or good for that matter no matter what it is suppose to sound like. I have played many bogner amps and this doesn't sound anything like it.
The New orange preamp is terrible 2. So I know there is something I did stupid or just plainly missed and it's starring me right in the face. I went over every single setup thing I could think of and no go. But when I switch back to using m 2 preamps , everything sounds fine. I don't get it

Any help would be great guys. I feel dumb asking this as this is my 3rd Boss GT unit but I never had this issue with the other 2.

Re: Bos GT-100 Issues.

I was going to suggest that it may have been the output mode, but it seems you have already checked that. Is it an issue of speaker modeling on/off? (I have a GT-6 - no experience with 10 or 100, so I'm just grasping at straws here)

Your thinking is very similar to mine. It was the first thing I checked. I even tried different outputs just to hear the differences and to see IF any of the amp modelers I wanted to mess around with would perform better with a different output setting. Sometimes they do. I use the Combo Return but have used the Stack return from time to time to get a different sound when I had the GT-10.
On a side note dude the GT-10 smokes the GT-6 in all kinds of ways.I suggest checking one out. If you want something that works closer to the way the GT-6 does , the GT-8 is a step up. It has more but it's honestly not enough I'd skip it and go GT-10. I loved mine. There are many times I want it back but I'm gonna tuff it out with the GT-100 as somethings on it sound so much better.
These damn multi effects are a pretty big learning curve and it you don't have patience, I can see all the pedals coming right back out of the closet. But if you can tuff it out, it's a wonderful tool to have.

Re: Bos GT-100 Issues.

Yeah, I've been wanting to upgrade to one of the newer models for a long time but being that I don't play out much I have a hard time really justifying it. One of these days maybe I'll find a sweet deal on a used one.

Good luck getting it sorted out!

Re: Bos GT-100 Issues.

The gt8 had it's mid frequency at 500Hz, on the gt10 it's at 800Hz, where is it at on the gt100? I mean the global & patch Mid Frequency value.

The global eq isn't exactly neutral but rather the sound of the unit by default when all db values are at 0 I think. Cut the bass by -3 or -5(don't be shy to go lower than that as well). Try setting the mid freq value from 800Hz to 2kHz range in the global eq & match that same freq with the patch eq. See if that helps somewhat.

With the gt100 they've added a ton of bass, turn it down in the global eq, then if needed add it via the preamp's eq control or patch eq. Probably try out the the lines/phones output mode with cab sims manually turned off while making sure nothing is plugged at all into the phones socket on the gt.
