Hey Guys

I've been looking into the Keeley Mod for the Boss Blues Driver, has anyone got this pedal/had their blues driver modded?? What are the differences and what can you tell me about it? Does it sound good through any specific amps/guitars?

Thanks heaps for your thoughts!

Re: Boss Blues Driver - Keeley Mod

No first hand experience but i looked seriously into getting one a while back and came to the conclusion that it wasn't going to suit my humbuckers all that well as Keeley seems to do a lot of his stuff with Strats and Teles in mind. As for amps, the pedal is going to act to some degree as a pre-amp so it will sound better when played in front of a good amp rather than just stomping all over the amp's existing tone and replacing it with it's own

I have one but rarely use it. That's not a reflection on the pedal, I have a bunch and rarely use any of them. I like it with my Tele's but have never used it with my other guitars. I use it with my Gries 35.

Re: Boss Blues Driver - Keeley Mod

I had one for several years and only recently sold it. I never really used it as a stand alone OD although it is perfectly capable of performing that function. I set it up with a very low gain setting and used it as an almost clean boost and then kicked in another OD in front of it for more distortion/sustain for leads. Using it this way it worked equally well with single coils and humbuckers.

The Blues Driver before mods is already one of Boss' best pedals IMO. I never compared pre and post mod units to see specifically what improvements the Keely mod makes.

I sold it during a phase when I thought it best to liquidate everything that wasn't board mounted at the time. That probably wasn't too wise.

Welcome to the forum, Dan!

I have had a couple with the Allums H2O mods FANTASTIC transparent OD's!!

Re: Boss Blues Driver - Keeley Mod

Well, I have the Keeley Modded BD2 sold by Lazarus1140 LOL! (thanks, bro!) I also have a stock BD2 (soon to be modded). The BD2 is a great pedal, but it can be a little gritty sounding. The Keeley mod makes the pedal a lot smoother and transparent. With the Phat mod, it thickens the tone nicely. I have a number of dirt boxes, but the only one I keep on my board is the Keeley modded BD2, that in conjunction with the SD pickup booster gets me all that I want from a pedal based dirt solution.
