Boss Blues Driver... what is it? :p

I never really tried one... If I get it right though, it's basically a TS circuit modded for a thicker, warmer, less midhumped gain type?

Re: Boss Blues Driver... what is it? :p

The BD2 is called the "Blues Driver" since it is designed for use by jazz guitarists.

Hehehehehehehehehe...I probably SHOULD have looked at the schems, good point...
Mhmm assymetrical clipping again. Like an SD1. It does look a bit different but I don't have the TS/SD1 schems in my head though so I can't pinpoint it. Is it a distortion/OD or a boost?

Re: Boss Blues Driver... what is it? :p

It's my fav overdrive. Over the years I've used it as my main gain pedal when I had crappy amps, and as a solo boost when I had good two-channel amps. With the gain at around 10:00, it adds a bit of greasy fatness to your tone that's perfect for leads.

Re: Boss Blues Driver... what is it? :p

Yep symmetrical it is.
It actually has a whole circuit to lift off the drive when in bypass, then it only runs on the buffer.
The dualside tone thing is the most annoying thing to balance out.
It reeks of engineer and not a player who made this one:D

Re: Boss Blues Driver... what is it? :p

:laugh2: I saw it and thought 'eh, symmetrical' and I just typed the EXACT opposite. That's all me :D
Fair enough then... Unless it sounds perfect right out of the box I doubt it'd be for me I imagin...

Re: Boss Blues Driver... what is it? :p

I use a Keeley Phat Mod Version as a boost for the front end of my 800 series Marshalls and it sounds fantastic. Doesn't seem to effect the sound much, just pushes it a bit more and adds a greasy bluesy feel that is great for solos.

Only used it as a stand alone overdrive a couple of times and had good results there as well.

Re: Boss Blues Driver... what is it? :p

I have a much cheaper clone-ish of it. It's the Digitech Screamin Blues, and it has 2 Band EQ, gain volume, and sounds very nice. And it did not break mr piggy bank! Rated!

Re: Boss Blues Driver... what is it? :p

I have (and use) the Analog Man "Super mod" version of this pedal. I love it, because I can use it alone as an OD or clean boost, or I can use it in conjunction with another gain pedal (usually an Analog Man King of Tone) for some great, Marshall-esque tones.

I loved mine when it was stock . . . picked it up in a pawnshop for pretty cheap. After a few years of using it stock I found a mod for it, and was even happier. I've been using it as a boost rather than a distortion for the last couple of years.

Been wanting a Blues Driver for a while now... One of my favourite players Kim Mitchell uses one to juice his JCM 800 2204 on live gigs... he is tap dancing on that pedal on and off all thru his shows... pretty cool sound he is getting with a Boss Comp, Blues Driver, and a Chorus.... he told me all his gear is stock, not modded... except he has greenbacks in his cabs

Hehe but my hell what a sound that pedal has after you modded it.

Smooth isnt a word to be used with it, neither is bluesy.

Try raunchy, aggressive and in your face.

But that mod is so different than the typical Keeley mod.

Great little pedal :)

It's nothing like a TS, at least to my ears. It's probably the cleanest "drive" pedal I've played, short of a clean boost pedal lol. I love the tone it gives, it seems to preserve more of the tone of the guitar while still overdriving.

Re: Boss Blues Driver... what is it? :p

It is surprisingly full and fairly transparent. I think they were going for a Fenderesque overdrive. A friend uses one with a bandmaster and it fattens it up nicely.

Re: Boss Blues Driver... what is it? :p

Well if it's transparent AND a nice OD sound, it DOES seem it's for me then :D I shall try one when I get back to the burgh. Thanks guys!

Ya i'm a huge Kim Mitchell fan.... right back to the Max Webster days.. First Max album i bought was Live Magnetic Air.... been hooked since.. Love the solo EP from 82..... a while ago Kim said on his site that Steve Vai told him that when he was with Roth they recorded a cover of Kim's KId's In Action for Eat Em And Smile.... But at the last minute it was pulled and Big Trouble was used instead.... Man i'd kill to hear that cover tune!!!
