Re: Boss CH1 or CE5?

Find a used CE-2.
But I believe Hysteria was a TC chorus. And that was THE chorus box to have back then.
+1 Ce-2 is the best chorus ever IMO. And they're pretty cheap used, but also a little hard to find (around here at least).
Anyways. between the Ch-1, and Ce-5. I always suggest the Ch-1. Its what I always use, and It is actully alot more versitile than people seem to think. Most people wanna just be able to max out the e. level control and have it sound exactly how they want. But like any other pedal worth owning, ya gotta fiddle with it ta get it exactly where you want it. Pretty much any chorusing sound you could want you can get outta it. It just takes a bit of twidleing with knobs.
It is a Slightly more intense Chrous than the CE-5, and deffinately works Better under gain than the Ce-5 does. But that said, I only use chorus on clean sounds (and alotta clean sounds at that), And I personally think the Ch-1 kicks the hell outta the ce-5 for cleans.
The trick is for clean sounds Set the E. Level Control around 9-12 o'clock. And for dirty sounds set it to 12-3 O'clock. You'll never really wanna have the e level control maxed out (unless your playing messy grunge), or the chorus is just to Over powering.
you can also get a really kool, really light Phaseing sorta sound (like the sound on the begaining of Tuesdays gone) if you set the depth controll to the max, and the Rate control to the minmum.
Or ya can get a really heavy almost vibrato sound if you max out Both the Depth, and Rate controls. Although this sounds best with the E level set really low (like around 8 o'clock).
The only thing that Bothers me about the Ch-1 is the Eq control on it. mainly because with the eq control set anywhere above 0, it seems to give the signal a slight boost. It seems less like an eq contoll and more like a High frequency boost, so if ya got it set high and click the pedal on, It feels like the Signal gets Slightly louder. which I find really annoying. But On the plus side, with the control set to 0, theres no boost, no muddyness, and It makes the effect fairly transparent. (obviously theres still chorusing, but Rather than the chorus sounding like "A chorus pedal, oh yeah and your guitar" as alotta pedals do, Sucking the character of your guitar out and putting its own inplace instead. With the Ch-1 You Hear Your guitar, and you get the added bonus of some chrous, the way a good pedal should be.)
