Re: Boss GT-8 VS. Line 6 POD XT Live.

there is many online forums for the GT 8, be sure to check them out. Boss will have a computer editor for you too, in a few months- there is already one floating around online by a user.
For me, I like the 2 amps at a time thing...just amazing stuff...also I like the delays trailing off when I change presets.
I would've considered the Vox if they had made a rack version, but I needed something in a rack.

Re: Boss GT-8 VS. Line 6 POD XT Live.

I've always used GT's. Came from the GT-3 to GT-6 to GT-8, and just like 'em a lot, specifically for the FX-loop, that on the GT-8 has finally been taken out of the OD/DS menu. THANK GOD, about time, Boss! I've got a tube preamp attached in the loop, connected through the '4-cable method', and always hated the fact I couldn't use any of the GT's overdrives in front of that tube preamp. If I wanted to boost it, I had to put the GT's parametric EQ in front.
I also use the GT's preampsims, though, and they're much more convincing, more defined and more dynamic than on its predecessors.

For a good comparison, you might also want to check this article out. I already mentioned it in another GT-8-topic somewhere on these forums, it's really well worth reading and provides for a nice shootout of 5 major multi-FX.

Re: Boss GT-8 VS. Line 6 POD XT Live.

On slightly related note, I was looking for a lttile modelling amp before getting a XTL -and after trying a ROland and a Spider, there was no comparison...Roland SQUASHED the spider. This makes me wonder if I should go GT 6/8 instead of XTL....

Re: Boss GT-8 VS. Line 6 POD XT Live.

Yeah, my broher bought a cheap spider to get back into playing, and I was ticked because he didn't ask me. I would have steered him toward the cubes for shore!

All the GT-x units require a bit of tweaking. The thing was, for those of us who had GT-3 and GT-6, we would tweak and never quite get there. There is so much flexibility in the 8 that it still requires tweaking, but you definitely get there. I A/B'ed the Plexi Amp model on the GT-8 through a keyboard amp against a Traynor 50 Blue and the 8 did great. Had to adjust the mic sim in the amp model, and whether the mic is on center or off center and by how much, but that always gets me there.

So much power in that thing.... incredible. Very happy. Will check out an atomic and tube power amp before this is over.

The Spider is not a fair comparison. It does not have most of the amp models available in the xt. But whaddaya want for $200?:chairfall

Did anyone else see the irony of the poll and the choice?:laugh2:

No, but I think he was talking about the overall sound quality. It is fairly common for companies to keep their best technology for the really expensive stuff (i.e, vetta).

No - but I'd love to!

Re: Boss GT-8 VS. Line 6 POD XT Live.

No doubt I was working the low end. But really, a model is a model. And if anything I was comparing a more expensive spider to the Cubes. I'm just saying that the bottom line was surprised at how much better I liked a) The sound of the Roland/Boss and B) Overall Ease of use

MAybe Line 6 kicks it into high gear after 4 bills. I'm goign to be looking into very carefully in the future though and the Boss board is goign to be the #1 alternate choice. Based on these I won't be surprised if it wins...

Re: Boss GT-8 VS. Line 6 POD XT Live.

i own both units... and let me tell you all that they´re very different, both have good and bad things... for instance i like the XT live coz of the aux input which is an awesome features which allows you play with a cd player or whatever and headphones and dont make any noise to your parents, on the other hand the gt-8 seems more alive, more clearly and more real... i wish it had an aux in, but i dont care coz i only use it for live situation and sometimes for rehearsels... anyways i wouldn´t say which is better coz like i said before both have amazing features, but if it comes to pick one i´ll take the GT-8 anytime or day or month or gig... i put all my trust in it.

Pssst...... I got the GT-8. :smokin:

Sweet, dude. Let us (especially me) know what you think. I love the thing. The biggest factor in how the GT-8 sounds is what you play it through. Through a keyboard amp or effects return of a tube combo, it is the bomb, completely.

IronJose is right, I think it is more alive.

It does require tweaking, but the sounds are there for shore!!

Congrats!

Re: Boss GT-8 VS. Line 6 POD XT Live.

yeah, when i´m home i play through the xt live coz of the aux in, but other wise if the gt-8 had the aux in would have not bought the xt live... but on the otherhand i also bought the xt live coz i bought the variax guitar as well... its cool and joining the gt8 with the variax it defines the guitar´s sound... with its alivenesss.
