Boss metal Zone buzzy conundrum???

Hi, why is it that the boss metal zone pedal is buzzy as a bee fart played through a marshall valvestate but when played through a marshall mg or a peavey bandit as i have experienced, it sounds fine. no buzziness at all. for a while i have wondered why many people say it sounds like a tin full of bees. i now kind of know why. but its not like that with all amps. i am confused as to why this could be????

Re: Boss metal Zone buzzy conundrum???

Are you playing on the clean channel on the mg and the distortion channel on the valvestate?

Re: Boss metal Zone buzzy conundrum???

I used to use one thru my old '65 Bandmaster-Buzz City! When I tried it thru my JCM800 it was god-like!

Re: Boss metal Zone buzzy conundrum???

yeh but he said it sounded better with a MG (SS) then a Valvestate (Hybrid but still has a tube)

Re: Boss metal Zone buzzy conundrum???

I used through clean channels only. both have celestion speakers.

maybe the eq just needs adjusting to compensate for the different amps....

edit: hmm nope tried that. maybe i need a new pedal? i actually really like the way the pedal sounds through the marhsall mg100dfx with a bit of delay. but it sounds ****e through this valvestate

Maybe the metal zone drives the preamp tube too hard?

If I overdrive the clean channel of my AVT20, the clippings are quite buzzy.

Try it through a JC120 if you can.

Try it through a JC120 if you can. Wow, then you really hear what bad sounds like!

Re: Boss metal Zone buzzy conundrum???

Your sort of at the mercy of your preamp. A good unit...a great sound out of a MT-2(even better modded). A cheap amp/preamp...you get crap from any dist pedal. Analogman does a great MT-2 Pro mod...but I suggest running it into something better than a Valvestate. Just my opinion. Here's a link to Analogman's MT-2 mod page.

Re: Boss metal Zone buzzy conundrum???

well i actually like the way the metal zone sounds through a marshall mg. it sounds just fine for bedroom level metal. but through the valvetstate it sounds awful. my gut feeling is that the preamp with the tube doesn't like my pedal. the onboard distortion isn't too bad surprisingly but its rubbish for lead playing. damn does this mean i am gonna have to sell yet another amp!!!!!!! if all pedals will sound crap through it

SEPULTURICK
BUY A CRATE GX series amp, i recomend a gx80(The One i HAD) and then use the metazone.
IF YOU want, i can sedn you the pics with the settings i used to use on the MT.
you will really like them
BUT , DON´T put the pedal output level down, or you will get the buzz.
Q:p

Re: Boss metal Zone buzzy conundrum???

If I had one pedal that worked on other amps but not on one specific amp, I'd think that it's the amp's fault. Could be the fuzziness is too much treble EQ?

Re: Boss metal Zone buzzy conundrum???

No, don't sell the amp, sell the pedal. Playing a Metal Zone through an MG makes sense since they're both crap IMHO. The MG series doesn't deserve the badge they wear. I've heard much better SS Marshalls than those things.

Did you ever get the Bad Monkey? That would sound 100 times better through the Valvestate. Just back off the gain on the amp a bit and then slam it with the Bad Monkey. Mess with the settings a tiny bit at a time to find your sweet spot. Just the BM and the amp, no other pedals.

Not everyone's tone is plug-n-play = sound great. Sometimes it takes time by sitting and fiddling with the controls.

Re: Boss metal Zone buzzy conundrum???

Here is my own demo of the Boss Metal zone

Re: Boss metal Zone buzzy conundrum???

I replied in one of the 4 Mt-2 threads that a buddy of mine makes his sound very good through a classic 30. As for the bandit: a band that I loved when I was a teenager used to use metal-zones through bandits live and they always sounded very good. didn't use much gain and it sounded very very good too.

I believe that this pedal is quite dependent on the amp it's played through. Also, much of its bad name comes from folks who didn't stop and try to make it sound good through their set-up or didn't have it paired with the right amp.

Do I miss mine? Nope. Still, I've heard people (a select few) make good music with good tone with it.
