Boss MT-2 and ML-2

Let's talk about these pedals (MT-2 Metal Zone and ML-2 Metal Core). I'm thinking about getting one, because I've heard some nice tones with them, and the few times I've tried a Metal Zone, I was able to get some pretty good tones, in my opinion (extra mids, not that buzzy, scooped tone that every kid seems to dial in reflexively on YouTube).

But how versatile are these, exactly? Yngwiestein wrote in this thread that he heard someone dial in a great "brown sound" sort of rock tone on the ML-2. And is the main difference between the MT-2 and the ML-2, just the extra amount of deep bass on the ML-2, and the lack of a parametric mids control?

I've read that in the same way that the HM-2 Heavy Metal pedal was instrumental for early Swedish death metal, that the MT-2 was used quite a bit by the early Swedish melodic death metal bands.

i have the metalzone, and think it's pretty versatile as far as hard rock and metal tones are concerned. the metalzone compared to the metalcore, imo, is alot warmer. the metalcore is alright for really scooped tones, but that'll get lost in a mix real fast. overall, i like the metalzone much better because it's more versatile and isn't uber scooped and buzzy.

i use the metal zone for heavier stuff. just turn the distortion to about 1/4 the way up. or less, and compress it. then it doesnt sound like a bag of bee's. the metal core, i didnt like. it just seemed like it didnt have the balls the mt-2 has. but i didnt have enough time to dial it in right. try em both at your local rock shop. see which you like better.

Re: Boss MT-2 and ML-2

I found that the Metal Zone was too touchy for me to use it anywhere on gigs. The slightest touch of the knobs made the sound go from OK to terrible, so I'd have to take longer setting up that pedal than all the rest of my pedals and amp at soundcheck. There were a (very) few cool sounds that I got from it, but most settings sounded either like bees or a wah stuck in a funny position.
