Boss OD-20 Drive Zone

I was looking at the Boss OD-20. I like the versatily it seems to have and i also like the options as far as distortion types (i hope that they sound good, even if they don't exactly replecate the real pedal). Is this a good sort of do-it-all distortion box or would i be better off with a tubescreamer/ds-1/metal zone combination?

Re: Boss OD-20 Drive Zone

i own the boss od 20......i must say i do not use much of the options it has as i do not like most of the sounds it has.....i only use the lead setting......the strange thing is that i used to have a boss me50 pedalboard which had a distortion section similar to the one on the boss od 20.......i liked more the distortion/overdrive sounds coming from the me 50 (awesome rat simulation) than the od 20......

Re: Boss OD-20 Drive Zone

Once I hear COSM I check out completely. COSM is a neat idea overall. They try to model sounds in stages and layers rather than from the beginning to the end point. They feel like that way you not only get the tone right, but you get the feel right because the first stage feeds the second stage feeds the third stage and so on.

But with overdrive, I've never heard a COSM Boss model that sounded like the real thing. They all sound pretty good but compress differently, and they don't really do as well as boosters.

So if you like the sound, then buy it. But if you are buying it as a substitute for real Boss overdrives that you are already familiar with, then you may find it bland and uninspiring.

Should i stick with a tubescreamer/ds-1/mt-2 combination to get a variety of distortion instead?
